๐ŸŒฟ Meet Our Staff โ€“ Kaylee LaCompte ๐ŸŒฟ

At Seeds of Eden, we believe that the most powerful stories of hope come from those who have walked the journey themselves. Today, weโ€™re honored to introduce one of our team members, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Kaylee LaCompte!

โ€œHi, my name is Kaylee LaCompte. Iโ€™m an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. I grew up between McLaughlin and Timberlake, South Dakota. Iโ€™ve had my own struggles with addiction and the legal system, treatments etc...
Growing up on the reservation, we see our people struggle with substance abuse, some of us grow up in it. But, almost all of us have lost loved ones to it. I was once a part of the problem and now Iโ€™m trying to be a part of the solution. I graduated treatment and moved back home to SRST. Iโ€™m now 2 1/2 years sober. Being sober has brought light into my life again. Today Iโ€™m able to be a daughter, a sister, an aunty, a granddaughter, a friend, even a coworker.
Iโ€™m excited to be working with other women in recovery while getting to learn, grow, and further my own recovery at the same time. Iโ€™m excited to be working in an environment that helped me change my life around so I know it can help other others too..โ€

**As part of her continued professional development, Kaylee will also be participating in several important training opportunities this year:

โ€ข Peer Support Training
โ€ข 2026 South Dakota Behavioral Health Conference: August 10โ€“11, 2026
โ€ข 2026 State-Tribal Opioid and Methamphetamine Prevention Summit (STOMP): September 10-11, 2026

Please join us in welcoming Kaylee to our behavioral health team. Her lived experience, passion, and ability to connect and serve our people is precisely the mission of Seeds of Eden. We are excited to see the positive impact she will have in our communities!

๐ŸŒฟ Meet Our Staff โ€“ Shanity White Mountain ๐ŸŒฟ

At Seeds of Eden, we believe that some of the most powerful stories of hope come from those who have walked the journey themselves. Today, weโ€™re honored to introduce one of our team members, Crisis Intervention Specialist, Shanity White Mountain!

โ€œHello, My name is Shanity White Mountain. I am an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and grew up on the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. I recently relocated to McLaughlin after completing treatment in 2024. I am currently two years and eight months sober. Recovery has profoundly transformed my life, enabling me to identify emotions, cope in healthy ways, develop patience, and believe in my ability to become a better version of myself daily.

Embracing a sober lifestyle and taking each day at a time has broadened my perspective in numerous ways. This newfound understanding motivates me to share my experiences and apply them to assisting others within my community. I observe many of our people struggling with substance abuse or alcohol dependency and am determined to demonstrate that there is hope and that it is never too late to seek help.

I am eager to seize this opportunity to witness our community membersโ€™ growth in ways they had not anticipated and to recognize the genuine care and commitment of individuals who genuinely desire to support their well-being.โ€

**As part of her continued professional development, Shanity will also be participating in several important training opportunities this year:

โ€ข Peer Support Training
โ€ข 2026 South Dakota Behavioral Health Conference: August 10โ€“11, 2026
โ€ข 2026 State-Tribal Opioid and Methamphetamine Prevention Summit (STOMP): September 10-11, 2026

Please join us in welcoming Shanity to our behavioral health team. Her lived experience, compassion, and commitment to serving our people embody the mission of Seeds of Eden. We are excited to see the positive impact she will have in our communities!

The first fruits of our harvest began with two small tomatoes ๐Ÿ…, which by the way, tasted amazing. Raise a vegetable, announce a toast, to the beginnings of a fulfilling recovery journey ๐Ÿ’ฏ We believe that food sovereignty and economic sustainability are keys to recovery from addiction, unhealthy substances, and habits. And natural, organic food is medicine. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

What a unifying and meaningful time tonight discussing addiction recovery, crisis intervention, and healing within the Bear Soldier district. Also a huge shoutout to Standing Rock Fish & Game for donating bison meat to our event! Delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹ Excellent questions from the community as we collaboratively address the difficult issues affecting our relatives. Thanks to district chairwoman Bobbi Jamerson for your leadership in spearheading these initiatives. And great job Kay LaCo and TeeJay Kc for opening up about your lived experience and expertise.

(On a side note, we apologize if the kids drank too many BUBBLโ€™Rs. The coolers werenโ€™t being monitored ๐Ÿคญ) ๐Ÿฆฌ ๐ŸŠ

Gardening and food sovereignty ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ are in full steam. Our raspberry tree was planted, and special thanks to LLoree TwoCrow with Two Crow Gardens today for transplanting some tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers! Ohโ€ฆand we got rhubarb bigger than a Cali sequoia ๐ŸŒฒ.

Also, fun gardening tip. Marigolds are incredibly beneficial to gardens. Their roots release natural compounds that suppress harmful soil nematodes, and their strong scent helps deter pests and insects. Additionally, they attract pollinators and bees ๐Ÿ!
