Endoscopic cholelithotripsy and cholelithotomy

For patients with indwelling tubes, interventional radiologists can manage gallstones using minimally invasive techniques:

🔹 Percutaneous Cholelithotripsy – Uses laser, electrohydraulic, or mechanical lithotripsy via the cholecystostomy tract to fragment stones for easier removal or passage. Ideal for patients who are not surgical candidates.

🔹 Percutaneous Cholelithotomy – Involves direct stone extraction using baskets or graspers through the cholecystostomy tract. This is often combined with lithotripsy for larger stones or when fragmentation alone is insufficient.

These IR-guided techniques provide effective, less invasive alternatives for clearance, reducing the need for in high-risk patients.
