One of the things I have been learning with my two oldest boys lately is that every emotion is welcome, but not every behavior is. Anger, sadness, fear, frustration, disappointment... none of those emotions are “bad.” They’re part of being human. But while I try to make room for emotions, I also help my kids learn healthy ways to express them without hurting themselves or others.
Many of us spend years trying to outrun anxiety, numb grief, suppress anger, or silence fear. It makes sense. Emotions can feel overwhelming.
But emotions aren’t the enemy. They’re information.
The goal isn’t to feel less. The goal is to become more capable of feeling without being controlled by what you feel.
When you learn to stay present with your emotions instead of fighting them, something begins to change. Fear loses its grip. Grief finds space to breathe. Joy becomes more accessible. And resilience grows.
Sometimes the path to feeling better isn’t around your emotions.
It’s through them.
