A power walk outside is more beneficial than a power walk on a treadmill in terms of relieving depression & anxiety, increasing neuropeptide production, lowering blood pressure, & improving well-being. Moving or exercising outdoors increases production of melatonin, human growth hormone (HGH), & beta-endorphins. These hormones promote weight loss, improve metabolism, & create calmness. They're also anti-oxidants & help prevent cancer. Some scientists believe that breathing fresh air & communing with nature offers physical, mental, & emotional well-being.

Bile plays a huge role in maintaining the immune system and in controlling inflammation. It functions as an antimicrobial, and low levels have been associated with EBV, cytomegalovirus, Lyme disease, HIV, and recurrent bacterial infections.
Bile attacks and damages bacterial cell membranes, especially gram-positive bacteria. Reduced bile acids in the gut are associated with bacterial overgrowth and inflammation, and because bacterial pathogens play a role in gallstone formation, their overgrowth encourages gallstones.

"Something that a lot of people don't realize is that prescriptions, OTC meds, and illegal drugs steal the body's nutrients because they require vast amounts of nutrients for their metabolism and utilization in the liver and throughout the body. In addition, they often interfere with the absorption, utilization, and processing of nutrients.

The nutritional issue is of concern for all ages. The drug-taking population is no longer limited to the elderly: America's youth are taking drugs in unprecedented amounts for diabetes, ADHD, asthma, autism, depression, and more..."

"Although it's only been 6 years since Learning to Thrive was published, there are already updates to some of the information. In a way, this is typical - for one, science is continuously looking deeper and further, which can reveal new information and, for two, unfortunately, some of the science gets buried and takes awhile to come to light.

So for those reading Learning to Thrive, I invite you to visit my website, lisaeverettandersen.com, and look through the Literature Updates. Currently, there is expanded information on estrone, dihydrotestosterone, as well as eggs, meat, and fish (and that fish is meat, too)., plus some other interesting articles. Then, I invite you to keep visiting periodically, as I am currently working on more updates that will be posted soon." - Lisa Everett Andersen - Author

"It's getting hot outside, so you start having a drink always with you. This can be a fabulous habit, unless you are drinking from plastic.
The powerful xenoestrogens in soft plastics include nonylphenols, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), bisphenol-A (BPA), and phthalates. Soft plastics are manufactured to break down "quickly" in landfills (it takes 450 years!) and "burn safely" (they release all their xenoestrogens and mercury into the air).
Even sitting on a counter, the bottles degrade, emitting toxins into the air and into whatever liquid the bottle holds. We absorb these poisons through our hands and our lips..."

"Its a never-ending fight - the fight to give people a clear understanding of the effects brought on by what they are choosing as food and what they are not. In that, I have said 1000s of times and I will say it 1000s of times more, dairy is not good for anyone. Let's look at the impact dairy has on migraines, for example.
Dairy products top the list of migraine catalysts. The tyramine in cultured products, such as cheese and yogurt, is a known migraine trigger. In all dairy products, whether cultured or uncultured, casein, whey, lactose, and other constituents prompt the formation of antibodies that cause migraines when they reach the bloodstream through a leaky gut."

"We're talking chakras again today from the Creating a Spiritual Practice chapter. Stressors in life, including mental, emotional, and physical traumas, can wound and imbalance chakras, shifting them into under- or over-functioning in their ability to translate frequencies into chemical energy. Furthermore, the absence of the chakra's corresponding gland or organ (through genetic defect or surgical removal) makes it more difficult for the chakra to anchor its energy. This connection between the mind, body, and spirit is observed with the phenomenon of heart transplant patients who can take on the personality, feelings, and energy of the donor..."
