Domestic violence, substance use, sexual assault and human trafficking numbers would be near none existent, if this kkkountry actually was "prolife". Housing first and for all, is prevention on steroids.
I have been the victim of all the above.
Housing and adequate community supports when I was removed from my parent's care and told to couch surf by police at 17 instead of helping me, would have saved me an entire adulthood of trauma and instability. It would have saved 6 children from being brought into this cruel world to experience instability and systemic failures, after failure. How?
Well, to start, I should have NEVER been told to couch surf at 17 by supposed "professionals" like the police did to me. My school should have reached out to social services of some sort to ensure my safety and housing.
After being traffciked starting at age 17, for two years, and becoming pregnant by my abuser, I landed in another situation out of desperation for housing. I ended up 20 miles from the nearest city. 7 miles to the nearest rinkadink town. At times I was without transportation while caring for several small children in absolute poverty.
I used prevention. I even had scheduled abortions and I had also scheduled tying my tubes after baby #3. I voiced "no" without having my autonomy respected.
Yes, each pregnancy was a result of abuse, coercion, lack of transportation to needed and wanted appointments, no access to childcare to attend appointments, being denied dv shelters due to lack of police reports for physical abuse, even when every other kind of abuse was present etc etc etc. Systemic failures after failure, even though I actively tried to help myself and then ultimately my kids.
The stigma and discrimination I've endured for 16 years as I have attempted to navigate a system not intent on lifting people up but only further oppressing them, has had grave tolls on my mental and physical health. All the while I am expected to keep it together for my children, work and all the things, when I have never even been able to just breathe or process my traumas to any degree.
People just don't get how deep this s**t goes. How complicated and complex it is to escape with housing instability, especially, ESPECIALLY, as a victim/survivor.
I hate this kkkountry and always have. I've had full body rejection of Amerikkka since at least the 3rd grade. I stopped standing for the pledge that year because it was clear how it didn't represent my people, my lived and witnessed realty. Land of the free, my ass. Land of the brave, is an insult; knowing that these lands were violently colonized by cowards and rapists, not bravery.
Today people are being criminalized for reacting to and surviving extreme systemic abuses and oppression. Enough is enough. We outnumber those in power. We need to band together to fight for basic human dignity, for all people.
I am trying to find the resolve to not just help myself and my own family, but the countless families caught in the web of oppression that was systematically designed against the wellbeing of all, to benefit only the few families at the top of this gross hierarchy.
If you want to be part of ACTUAL solutions, not just buzz words and lip service for grant funding (ahem YWCA Missoula), hit me up! I and mi hermana Elena and I can't do it all alone.
