When I work with a patient, I’m much more interested in the landscape.
Who is this person?
What has their life asked of them?
Do they stuff their stress or take a paintbrush to it?
What relationships and support systems surround them?
What do they eat? What brings them joy? What has happened to them or their ancestral line? What season of life are they in?
And what is their body trying to communicate?
By the time I look at labs or other diagnostics, those pieces exist within the context of a whole person—and not the other way around.
This is one of the reasons I love naturopathic medicine and somatic work so much.
My role isn’t simply to give someone another to-do list.
It is to help them develop a relationship with their own body. To become more informed and curious. More able to recognize the nuance of their body, and more confident in responding.
