💦FIVE important facts about hydration for children:

💦1. Children have higher water requirements than adults - relative to their size - because they have a higher metabolic rate and therefore lose water at a faster rate.

💦2. Dehydration is more common in children than in adults because children may not always recognize that they are thirsty and may not have access to water during the day.

💦3. Children who are physically active or playing sports need to drink more water to replace fluids lost through sweating.

💦4. Children can benefit greatly from water with natural antioxidants such as ionized water, this not only hydrates but serves as a protective agent aqainst free radicals.

💦5. Water with a mineral content and neutral to 9.5 ph is supportive to little bodies to replenish what is lost throughout the day.

☀️Enjoy your summer but don’t forget vital hydration for your growing littles!

STAY HYDRATED 💦

Some recommendations from your friends at Blue Moose Pediatrics:

💧It’s important to drink plenty of water, especially during the summer months when outdoor temperatures rise. If your children are playing sports or involved in other physical activities, they need more water than normal to prevent dehydration.

💧Kids are at a higher risk for dehydration and
heat illness compared to adults because children have a lower sweating capacity and produce more heat during physical activity. To determine how many ounces of water your child should be getting each day, take their weight in pounds and divide it in half. For example, if your child weighs 80 pounds, half of that is 40.

💧Forty ounces of water at minimum is how much water that child should drink every day when physically active. Water should be the primary hydration source for children during physical activity.

💧Enjoy these beautiful summer days - and don’t forget to take your water bottles with you when you’re on the go.

☀️ Summer schedules can get busy with vacations, camps, sports, and family fun—but don’t forget your child’s well-checks!

Regular wellness visits help us monitor growth and development, keep immunizations up to date, answer questions, and make sure your child is healthy and thriving.

Summer is also a great time to complete school, sports, and camp physicals before the back-to-school rush.
