Neuroscapes is opening an ADHD testing clinic! (Scroll to the end if you don’t want to read my long post).
Have you ever wondered why psychologists and psychiatrists don’t include biomarkers in their diagnoses, when almost every other medical professional does? You would never be diagnosed with hypothyroidism without TSH labs, or get surgery to remove a tumor without knowing where it was located. Fortunately, the DSM-6 committee is now discussing the use of biomarkers in diagnosis.
Although the mental health field is not there yet, I believe that biomarkers are the future of diagnosis. The good news is, there are ways to learn about brain biomarkers now, while the rest of the field catches up. I have spent the last three years studying under a small group of practitioners who have been using quantitative EEG’s since the 1980’s to better understand brain symptom patterns. I am trained in a research-based model of interpreting QEEG brain maps as they relate to known biomarkers. Often, our method can also point to which type of psychiatric medications may/may not be helpful in treating specific symptoms.
As many of you know, I did psychological testing for years, and I burnt out on a system that I didn't feel was nuanced or accurate enough to help my complicated clients. But I am so excited to be back, doing this work in a way that feels so much more helpful!
Based on my training, I have been inspired to create a new model of psychological testing. Our model combines psychological testing with QEEG biomarkers, in the hopes of providing the most accurate assessment of what is really going on in the brain.
At this time, our clinic is ONLY doing ADHD testing. We will do testing without the QEEG for a lower cost for folks who are not interested in this option. We are a private pay clinic, but we can provide a superbill for insurance reimbursement.
Interested parties can fill out a form on our website or contact us at [email protected].
