When communities come together to support children, incredible things happen.

Abbott House Youth Services was honored to be invited to the Dakotas Eagles Annual Convention in Harvey, North Dakota. It was a privilege to share our story with Eagles members from across North and South Dakota and to connect with both the Fraternal and Auxiliary Clubs.

Through club donations, grants, and quilt raffle ticket sales organized by the Vermillion Eagles Club, more than $12,000 was raised to support the youth in our care.

We are grateful for the relationship we have built with the Eagles over the years and for their commitment to helping children. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of so many young people.

Find Your Heart Week 11

Creativity looks a little different for everyone, and that was on full display during a recent painting activity in Mitchell. 🌸🎨

The girls spent time painting flowers, each adding their own unique style, colors, and personality to their artwork. Activities like these provide more than just a fun afternoon—they give youth a chance to express themselves and explore their creativity in a positive way.

We love seeing their individuality shine through every brushstroke.

The experiences a child carries with them can shape how they see the world, how they respond to challenges, and how they connect with others.

One tool we use to better understand those experiences is the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) assessment. In our Residential Treatment Facility, youth have an average ACE score of 6.7, reflecting the significant trauma many have faced.

But a score is only part of the story. It helps us identify the support, therapies, and interventions that can help each child heal, grow, and build a brighter future.

There was plenty of laughter and a little friendly competition when our girls visited Edgewood Healthcare in Mitchell for an afternoon of Bingo with the residents!

Both the girls and residents had a wonderful time, and we're grateful for the chance to build relationships across generations.

Thank you to Edgewood for welcoming us. We can't wait to visit again!

What can happen when a community rallies around a shared vision? Two new foster homes, countless new opportunities, and brighter futures for youth in the Black Hills.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, volunteers, and community partners, Abbott House Youth Services successfully completed its Rapid City Capital Campaign, reaching its $2.5 million goal in just a few months. Today, Jodie's Foster Home and Fritz & Mary's Foster Home are fully furnished, staffed, and providing safe, supportive homes for youth with higher needs.

This achievement belongs to our entire community, and we're excited to celebrate it together.

Join us for a ribbon cutting ceremony this Thursday at 3 p.m. as we officially dedicate these homes and recognize everyone who helped make them possible.

Recently, youth from our Addiction Recovery Unit spent the day exploring Crazy Horse Memorial.

From taking in the breathtaking views to learning about the history, culture, and vision behind the monument, it was a meaningful opportunity to connect with the Black Hills and the world around them.

Experiences like these help our youth see what's possible beyond their current circumstances and remind them that growth can happen one step at a time.
