Another young lady at Abbott House East has completed her program and is heading home!

She put in a lot of hard work during her time with us, and that work shows. Her outlook on life has changed, and through therapy, she and her family have worked together to build a stronger, healthier relationship.

Completing her program is a big accomplishment, but it’s also the beginning of what comes next. She has so much to look forward to, and we’re excited to see where her future takes her.

Yesterday was the Mitchell Area United Way Day of Caring, and we were grateful to welcome a crew from Northwestern Mutual - Black Hills and Mitchell to Abbott House!

The volunteers spent their time washing windows at our PRTF, helping tackle a project that makes a noticeable difference around the building.

United Way Day of Caring is a great reminder of what can happen when people are willing to roll up their sleeves and give their time. Thank you to the Northwestern Mutual team for spending part of the day with us and helping care for the spaces our youth call home.

Summer days can start to feel a little long, so sometimes a change of scenery is exactly what our youth need.

Last month, girls from our Rapid City PRTF spent the day at Mount Rushmore, enjoying some fresh air and sunshine at one of the Black Hills’ most iconic sights.

Outings like this are a chance to break up the routine, get outside and simply enjoy being a kid for a while. We’re pretty lucky to have so many beautiful places to explore right in our own backyard.

Back-to-school season comes with a long list of supplies, and our community is helping make sure the children in our foster homes have what they need.

Last week, we received school supplies collected by the residents at West Hills Village (including several former teachers!) and through Black Hills Federal Credit Union’s school supply drive. These donations will help us fill school supply lists for children living in our foster homes as they get ready for a new school year.

We’re grateful to everyone who picked up notebooks, folders, pencils and all the other supplies that help our kids head back to the classroom prepared and ready to learn.

Thank you, Westhills Village and Black Hills Federal Credit Union for thinking of our kids!

Sometimes it's the simple projects that make a house feel more like home.

Thank you to the volunteers from First Christian Reformed Church for spending the day at one of our Sioux Falls foster homes. They laid stepping stones in the pergola and created a beautiful backyard walkway that our youth will enjoy for years to come.
