October is Head Start Awareness Month!

Head Start is more than early childhood education. It connects children and families with resources that support healthy development, school readiness, and family well-being.

According to the First Five Years Fund's 2026 Alabama Fact Sheet, 12,511 children are enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs across Alabama. Yet, thousands more are eligible for these services.

At GRECS, we're proud to be part of a program that supports children, strengthens families, and helps build a foundation for lifelong learning.

Learn more about Head Start's impact in Alabama and why continued access to these services matters:

Uplift Head Start’s Lasting Impact
The impact of Head Start reaches far beyond the classroom.

For generations, Head Start has helped children begin school ready to learn while giving families opportunities to build toward their own goals. Today, Head Start alumni are educators, business owners, health professionals, public servants, parents, and community leaders.

During Head Start Awareness Month, we recognize Head Start’s lasting impact and uplift the many paths its children, families, and alumni have taken.

Recognize Head Start Staff
Behind every Head Start classroom is a team of dedicated people helping children and families thrive.

Teachers, family service professionals, bus drivers, health staff, cooks, program leaders, and so many others bring their expertise and commitment to Head Start every day.

This Head Start Awareness Month, we want to thank the Head Start workforce in Alabama for the important work they do for our children, families, and communities.

Recognize Head Start Awareness Month
October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize the children, families, educators, and staff who make Head Start such an important part of communities across the country.

For more than 60 years, Head Start has helped children build a strong foundation for school and life while supporting parents and families along the way.

We are proud to recognize Head Start Awareness Month and the people who make this program possible every day.

⏰ The deadline is TOMORROW.

Proposed changes to Head Start could weaken standards that help protect the quality and comprehensive services children and families receive — including small classroom environments, support for identifying developmental and learning needs, and connections to critical health and nutrition resources.

This is the time to speak up.

Parents, educators, early childhood professionals, community partners, and anyone who believes children deserve a strong start can submit a public comment.

📣 Make your voice heard before the deadline.
