The power of words is real.. use it wisely

07/05/2026

Dear Mum and Dad,

Please stick with me.

I can’t think clearly right now because there is a rather substantial section of my prefrontal cortex missing. It’s a fairly important chunk, something having to do with rational thought. You see, it won’t be fully developed until I’m about 25. And from where I sit, 25 seems a long way off.

But here's what i want my parents to know..

My brain is not yet fully developed

It doesn’t matter that I’m smart; even a perfect score on my math test doesn’t insulate me from the normal developmental stages that we all go through. Judgement and intelligence are two completely distinct things.

And, the same thing that makes my brain wonderfully flexible, creative and sponge-like also makes me impulsive. Not necessarily reckless or negligent but more impulsive than I will be later in life.

Please stick with me.

So when you look at me like I have ten heads after I’ve done something “stupid” or failed to do something “smart,” you’re not really helping.

You adults respond to situations with your prefrontal cortex (rationally) but I am more inclined to respond with my amygdala (emotionally). And when you ask, “What were you thinking?” the answer is I wasn’t, at least not in the way you are. You can blame me, or you can blame mother nature, but either way, it is what it is.

At this point in my life, I get that you love me, but my friends are my everything. Please understand that. Right now I choose my friends, but, don’t be fooled, I am watching you. Carefully.

Please stick with me.
......

Here’s what you can do for me

1. Model adulting.
I see all the behaviors that you are modeling and I hear all of the words you say. I may not listen but I do hear you. I seem impervious to your advice, like I’m wearing a Kevlar vest but your actions and words are penetrating. I promise. If you keep showing me the way, I will follow even if I detour many, many times before we reach our destination.

2. Let me figure things out for myself.

If you allow me to experience the consequences of my own actions I will learn from them. Please give me a little bit of leash and let me know that I can figure things out for myself. The more I do, the more confidence and resilience I will develop.

3. Tell me about you.

I want you to tell me all the stories of the crazy things you did as a teen, and what you learned from them. Then give me the space to do the same.

4. Help me with perspective.

Keep reminding me of the big picture. I will roll my eyes at you and make all kinds of grunt-like sounds. I will let you know in no uncertain terms that you can’t possibly understand any of what I’m going through. But I’m listening. I really am. It’s hard for me to see anything beyond the weeds that I am currently mired in. Help me scan out and focus on the long view. Remind me that this moment will pass.

5. Keep me safe.

Please remind me that drugs and driving don’t mix. Keep telling me that you will bail me out of any dangerous situation, no anger, no lectures, no questions asked. But also let me know over and over and over that you are there to listen, when I need you.

6. Be kind.

I will learn kindness from you and if you are relentless in your kindness to me, someday I will imitate that behavior. Don’t ever mock me, please and don’t be cruel. Humor me-I think I know everything. You probably did as well at my age. Let it go.

7. Show interest in the things I enjoy.

Some days I will choose to share my interests with you, and it will make me feel good if you validate those interests, by at least acting interested.

One day when the haze of adolescence lifts, you will find a confident, strong, competent, kind adult where a surly teenager once stood. In the meantime, buckle in for the ride.

and.. Please stick with me.

Love,

Your Teenager

THEY KNEW SINCE 1911. THEY SAID NOTHING.

Before 1911, human beings cooked with butter, tallow, and lard. Heart disease was virtually non-existent. It was so rare that when a doctor saw a heart attack, they would call their colleagues into the room because they might never see another one in their career.

Then Procter & Gamble bought a patent for a process called hydrogenation. They took cottonseed oil—a toxic industrial byproduct used for making candles and soap—heated it to extreme temperatures, bleached it, deodorized it, and turned it into a solid white block.

They called it Crisco.

They marketed it as a "healthier, cleaner" alternative to animal fats. They gave away free cookbooks to housewives. They paid the American Heart Association millions of dollars to endorse it.

Within 50 years, heart disease became the number one killer in the world.

Seed oils—canola, soybean, sunflower, corn, and cottonseed—are not food. They are highly unstable, polyunsaturated fatty acids that oxidize the moment they enter your body. When you consume them, they embed themselves into your cell membranes. They cause massive, systemic inflammation. They disrupt your mitochondria. They are the primary driver of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

They took the fat your ancestors thrived on for thousands of years and told you it was dangerous. Then they sold you industrial machine lubricant and told you it was heart-healthy.

Throw away the toxic seed oil bottles in your kitchen. Go back to the natural fats that built the human brain.

I’ve instructed this for years. Now we have a video! Excellent!
Note: please don’t start with 50 repetitions like the video suggests or you will experience muscle pain and soreness. Start with 10 in each direction and increase increments of five weekly. It is better to be up and moving around for at least five minutes before performing these exercises (you must get the blood flowing).

When you are alone and have a heart attack, what are you gonna do? A really good post that can't be shared often enough:

1. Take a 2 minute break and read this:
Let's say it's 5:25 pm and you're driving home after an unusually hard day's work.

2. You are really tired and frustrated.
All of a sudden you experience chest pains. They are starting to radiate in the arm and jaw. It feels like being stabbed in the chest and heart. You're only a few miles away from the nearest hospital or home.

3. Unfortunately you don't know if you can make it..

4. Maybe you've taken CPR training, but the person running the course hasn't told you how to help yourself.

5. How do you survive a heart attack when you're alone when it happens? A person who is feeling weak and whose heart is beating hard has only about 10 seconds before losing consciousness.

6. But you can help yourself by coughing repeatedly and very strongly! Deep breaths before every cough. Coughing should be repeated every second until you arrive at the hospital or until your heart starts to beat normally.

7. Deep breathing gives oxygen to your lungs and coughing movements boost the heart and blood circulation. Heart pressure also helps to restore a normal heartbeat. That’s how cardiac arrest victims can make it to the hospital for the right treatment.

8. Cardiologists say if someone gets this message and passes it on to 10 people, we can expect to save at least one life.

9. FOR WOMEN: You should know that women have additional and different symptoms. Rarely have crushing chest pain or pain in the arms. Often have indigestion and tightness across the back at the bra line plus sudden fatigue.

10. Additional signs: Sudden profuse sweating and tightness in the throat.

Pay attention to what you eat! Wheat Thins banned in other countries….

Wheat Thins are now banned in Japan, the UK, and several parts of Europe due to their content of BHT, a synthetic preservative linked to endocrine disruptions, organ-system toxicity, and an increased risk of certain cancers. Regulators in these regions cited potential long-term health risks as the reason for the ban, prioritising consumer safety.

BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) is commonly used to prolong shelf life in processed foods, but studies have raised concerns about its impact on hormone regulation, liver and kidney function, and overall cellular health. These bans reflect growing scrutiny over additives with possible chronic health effects.

Consumers in affected regions are advised to check ingredient labels carefully and opt for products free from BHT and other controversial preservatives. The move highlights the importance of transparency and regulation in the food industry to protect public health.
