This October, our Community Engagement Coordinator, Sonya Starks, has been hard at work spreading the word about Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

At Re*****on College, Sonya connected with students and staff to share information about early detection, screenings, and support resources, and she served as the featured speaker at the fashion and talent show at the John E. King Senior Center.

The USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute mourns the loss of philanthropist, business leader and longtime University of South Alabama benefactor Abraham A. “Abe” Mitchell, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 15.

Along with his brother, Mayer, and sister-in-law, Arlene, Abe Mitchell envisioned bringing world-class cancer care to the Gulf Coast so patients and families could receive advanced treatment close to home without having to travel far from their loved ones. Their extraordinary generosity and commitment to this vision helped establish the Mitchell Cancer Institute, transforming cancer care in our region and bringing new hope to countless patients and families.
