Three days with Mrs. Ellen = three days of purposeful brain building disguised as fun. đ¨đ§
Art Sculptures + MKC was packed with creativity, movement, problem-solving, and flexible thinking.
Day 1 started with a simple pool noodle. We challenged kids to think beyond what a pool noodle is âsupposedâ to be used for and come up with as many ideas as possible. This led to a discussion about flexible thinkingâhow our brains, like pool noodles, can bend and adapt. We talked about what happens when our thoughts get stuck and how flexible thinking helps us solve problems, try new things, and keep the fun going. Kids shaped their noodles and began the sculpture process while getting lots of sensory input from wet plaster, planning where pieces should go, and bringing their ideas to life. We also discovered that pool noodles can become much more than pool toysâgames, obstacle courses, movement activities, exercise equipment, and plenty of laughs!
Day 2 was all about painting, creating, and remembering that mistakes donât have to make the fun stop. In art, a âmistakeâ can become something even better if weâre willing to stay flexible (just like the noodle ). We mixed in obstacle courses, movement games, and calming mat time to keep our brains and bodies working together.
Day 3 brought finishing touches to the sculptures and one last flexible thinking challenge. What if you only had cardboard and paintâbut no paintbrushes? What could you use instead? Kids brainstormed ideas, explored possibilities, and learned that when one idea doesnât work, there are usually lots of other ways. Using foam pieces, cardboard, and a little creativity, they challenged their brains to think in new ways and create something unique.
From sensory experiences and movement games to creativity, problem-solving, self-regulation, and flexible thinking, every minute was filled with important brain work.
Brain time well spent this week. â¤ď¸đ§
