Across the country, Home Instead teams are showing up with purpose at Walk to End Alzheimer’s events—walking in honor of loved ones, supporting families and raising critical funds for the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 💜

We are proud to partner with the ’sAssociation as a Walk to End Alzheimer’s Gold National Team. Together, Home Instead has raised more than $5.7 million over the past 18 years, including $258,000 last year alone, to advance Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

This year, we are well on our way to reaching our goal—and every donation and every step makes a meaningful difference. Thank you to every Care Pro, office team member, client, family member and community partner who walks, fundraises and helps move this mission forward.

When searching for a senior living community, touring more than one place can make all the difference.

Look beyond the amenities and notice the everyday interactions: Do team members know residents by name? Do they speak directly to the person who may live there? Does the community feel warm, personal and welcoming?

In this Caregiver Chats clip, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole Will share why comparing communities can help families find the right fit for their loved one.

Is Mom or Dad’s home as safe as it could be?

A few small changes around the house can make a big difference in helping a loved one stay safe and independent at home. Here are a few to check for:

🏠 Clear the clutter. Keep pathways free of shoes, cords, and loose items.
💡 Improve lighting. Nightlights and motion-sensor lights in hallways go a long way after dark.
🛁 Install grab bars. Bathrooms and stairways are the most important places to start.
🔥 Test your alarms. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors should be checked regularly, with batteries replaced yearly.
🧊 Set your water heater to 120°F. A simple adjustment that helps prevent burns.
📋 Post emergency info somewhere visible. The fridge is a great spot for contact and medical info.

This is just a starting point. We’ve put together a full home safety checklist covering every room, from the bedroom to the garage: https://www.homeinstead.com/c/drew-jonathan/home-safety-checklist/

Need help getting started? Home Instead can help provide guidance on your home environment and support your loved one’s safety and independence, right where they’re most comfortable.

One tour rarely tells the whole story.

When you’re exploring senior living options for someone you love, visit more than one community—and pay attention to the details that reveal how people are truly cared for.

Are residents greeted by name? Are conversations warm and personal? Does the team speak directly to the older adult, not just their family?

Sometimes the clearest answer comes from comparing how each place feels.

Touring senior living communities for a loved one? Look beyond the scheduled visit.

In this clip from Caregiver Chats, Nicole Will shares why it can be helpful to stop by at a different time—like an evening or weekend—and notice the everyday experience. Are residents interacting naturally? Do team members seem calm, attentive and familiar with the people they support?

The right community is about more than the building. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel connected, valued and at home.

Are you a Veteran who lives on the Alabama Gulf Coast? Do you need help at home?

We’ve met with numerous Veterans who faithfully served our country, yet don’t know they may have accessible benefits that can help them right at home.
Many Veterans and their families don’t realize that home-based care may be available as part of their VA benefits.

Home Instead is an authorized VA Community Care Network (CCN) provider, which means we’re able to serve Veterans using VA home care benefits when care is approved through the VA.

Eligibility and coverage depend on each Veteran’s individual VA benefits and care needs. If you’re a Veteran, or you care for one, the best first step is simple:

Talk to your VA care team (your PACT or primary care provider) about whether home care is right for you.

They can walk you through what’s available and how the process works.

💙 We’re grateful for the service of every Veteran in our community.

Disclaimer: This post is general, educational information and is not a guarantee of VA benefit coverage. Eligibility is determined by the VA. Please speak with your VA care team to learn more about your specific benefits.

Do you live on the Alabama Gulf Coast?

Are you asking:

"Does my long-term care insurance cover in-home care?"

If you or your parents are asking this because you've faithfully been paying into a long-term care policy for years, you're not alone. The answer is: yes, in most cases, it does. 🏡

Here's the part most families don't know: navigating a long-term care policy can feel like its own part-time job. Elimination periods, daily benefit maximums, required documentation, approved provider lists... it's a lot to take in, especially while you're also trying to care for someone you love.

This is where we come alongside you. Our team at Home Instead helps families:

✅ Understand what your specific policy covers and how benefits are triggered
✅ Gather and submit the documentation insurers require
✅ Coordinate billing directly with your LTC carrier when possible
✅ Build a care plan with our CarePros that fits within your policy's framework
✅ Answer questions along the way, so you're never doing this alone

You've already done the hard part by planning ahead. Let us help you actually use what you've paid into.

📞 Reach out to our team to talk through your policy and what it may cover.

Disclaimer: Every long-term care policy is structured differently, with its own terms, exclusions, elimination periods, and covered services. This post is for educational purposes only and is not a guarantee of coverage. Please consult your specific policy documents or your insurance provider to confirm your benefits.

A scheduled tour can show you the highlights. An unscheduled visit can show you everyday life.

When you’re considering a senior living community for someone you love, Nicole Will suggests stopping by at a different time—an evening or weekend—and paying attention to what you see.

Are residents connecting? Does the team seem calm and engaged? Do people know one another by name?

It’s not just about finding a place to live. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel known, connected and at home.

From supporting independence at home to providing meaningful companionship, Home Instead is here to help seniors live comfortably and safely. Recognizing the signs that a loved one may need extra support is the first step toward making a difference.

10/14/2026

When families begin exploring senior living, it’s easy to focus on the building first: the amenities, the dining room, the activity calendar.

But as Nicole Will () reminds us, the better place to begin is with the person.

What brings your loved one joy? Where do they find purpose? What kind of connection will help them feel known and at home?

In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole share a more person-centered way to approach one of caregiving’s biggest decisions.

Our Client Care Advisors, Becky and Rachel, have had a great time getting out into the community and making new connections for our clients this week!

They recently attended an estate planning presentation where they were able to learn more about state laws and connect with local professionals who can be trusted resources for our clients and their families.

They also had the opportunity to attend an in-service with Alabama Hospice. It was a great chance to meet some of the wonderful people on their team, share more about the services we provide, and talk about how we can work together to support hospice patients and their families.

We’re so thankful for these opportunities to learn, build relationships, and find more ways to serve the people in our community! 🤍

Who We Are:

Home Instead Mobile & Baldwin County provides in-home care that helps older adults continue living safely, comfortably, and independently at home.

We believe home is more than an address. It’s where people have built their lives, made memories, and feel most comfortable. Our goal is to help seniors remain in that familiar environment while giving their families confidence that someone is there to help.

What We Do:

Our Care Professionals provide personalized, one-on-one support based on each client’s needs. This can include companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation and accompaniment to appointments, errands, personal care, mobility assistance, and help with everyday activities.

But what we provide goes beyond a list of services.

Sometimes it’s driving someone to a doctor’s appointment. Sometimes it’s preparing a favorite meal. Sometimes it’s helping a client get dressed, taking them to a fitness class, or simply sitting down and having a conversation.

Our goal is to help our clients age safely and confidently at home while continuing to live life on their terms.

Veterans Benefits:
Eligible veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for VA benefits that can help offset the cost of in-home care. We can help families understand whether VA benefits may be an option and guide them through the process.

At Home. With Family. With the Right Support.

That’s what Home Instead is here to do.
