A milestone for cancer care on the Gulf Coast. πŸŽ—οΈ

Our team at the Infirmary Cancer Center completed the first hepatic artery infusion (HAI) pump implantation in Southern Alabama, bringing an advanced liver-directed therapy to our region for the first time.

HAI pump therapy delivers chemotherapy directly to the liver through a small implanted pump, allowing much higher concentrations of medication to reach liver tumors while limiting side effects to the rest of the body. For selected patients with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver, or with bile duct cancers, this therapy can shrink tumors and in some cases make surgery possible when it wasn't before.

Until now, patients in our area had to travel for this treatment. Through our affiliation with The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the only other center in Alabama offering HAI therapy, we're proud to bring this care home to Mobile.

Thank you to the entire surgical, medical oncology, pharmacy, and nursing team who made this program possible.

To learn whether HAI therapy may be an option for you or a loved one, call the Infirmary Cancer Center at 251-433-5557.
