Who knew a simple comb could be a helpful tool in labor? 🤯

The comb trick is one of those simple comfort measures that can make a difference when contractions get intense.

Here’s how it works: squeeze a comb in the palm of your hand, allowing the teeth to press gently into your skin.

That focused sensation gives your brain something else to process while you work through a contraction.

It won’t take the contraction away, but it can give you something to focus on as you ride the wave. 🌊

And here’s the thing: knowing what to do during labor can make all the difference.

From using a comb to hip squeezes, counterpressure, and position changes, there are so many ways your partner can help you cope with contractions.

That’s exactly what we teach inside Made for Birth & Beyond, so you and your partner can walk into birth feeling prepared, confident, and ready to work together.

✨ The best part? Many Kaiser and Health Net plans in California cover our childbirth education classes at $0 out of pocket.

👻 A haunted house BUT… Birth FEARS addition:

An illustrated haunted hospital tour of seven common birth fears for first time moms: being told to stay put, the birth plan getting laughed at, just-in-case interventions, Pitocin and the monitor, pushing flat on your back, the tearing fear, and no skin to skin, with what preparation changes instead.

Seven rooms in this house, and every one has a door: preparation.

Knowing what to expect, what to ask, and how to be heard is how you walk out.

Our classes pair the online course with live doula led telehealth sessions, and most California Kaiser and Health Net plans cover them at no cost.

Your birth plan should not be a term paper no one reads in labor. 📖

If you are afraid of walking in without the words for what you want, this is where to start.

Our free Birth Planning Checklist is a gentle guide to help you communicate your wishes with your care team.

Start with your top 3. Choose specifics within environment, comfort measures, movement, informed decisions, and pain management preferences.

Then fill in your name, partner, doula, due date, and birth location.

Then work through labor management with B.R.A.I.N. (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing for now), pushing and birth, newborn care, and what you want if a cesarean becomes necessary.

Birth is unpredictable, and the health and safety of you and your baby are the top priorities. These are preferences to honor whenever medically appropriate.

You deserve informed consent and shared decision making throughout your birth experience. ✨

That is prepared, not powerless.

Comment CHECKLIST and we will send you the full 2 page checklist. ✔️

If you have been going back and forth about taking a birth class, consider this your confirmation. And not because of the clouds. The moms who walk into birth calm are not the lucky ones, they are the prepared ones.

Our online birth class pairs the on-demand course with doula-led telehealth sessions, and most California Kaiser and Health Net plans cover it at no cost. That is the FREE part. 😅

Let’s clear something up! A birth plan was never meant to be a script. Birth doesn’t follow one, and no one is promising you it will. But when a plan gets brushed off, it usually isn’t a plan problem. It’s a preparation problem. The moms who feel heard in that room, are the ones who know their options. They walk in prepared.

Here’s what gets a plan taken seriously:

✨ 1. Keep it to one page. One clear page gets read. Three pages gets skimmed, plus an eye roll and a laugh.

✨ 2. Keep your plan flexible, not rigid. This isn’t a list of demands. List your wishes as long as you and baby are doing well. Birth is unpredictable! The prepared mom isn’t the one with a perfect plan. She’s the one who’s informed & ready to pivot should things change.

✨ 3. Know your why. When you understand your options and the reasons behind your preferences, you speak like a partner on your care team, not someone handing over a checklist.

✨ 4. Bring it up early. Share it at a prenatal appointment, not mid-contraction. Ask, “Is there anything here that doesn’t fit how you practice?” Then you can have a conversation and advocate for your preferences with evidence based information.
The goal was never to control birth. It’s to walk into labor and delivery informed, supported, and confident in your own voice, so that whatever your birth becomes, you can meet it with calm and a team that sees you. And to walk out with a positive birth experience.

And if your plan has to change? That’s not failure. That’s you advocating in real time, with the knowledge you built ahead of time.

You were fearfully and wonderfully made and you were made for this. Your body and your strength were never meant for a perfect birth. They were made for your birth, however it unfolds. Trust that. 🫶🏼

If you’re not sure what belongs in your plan (or what to leave out), that’s exactly what we walk you through and so much more inside Made for Birth & Beyond, our online childbirth class for moms who want to feel prepared, not powerless…

We’re Childbirth Educators, but we’re also… 🤍✨

Moms, wives, aunties, grandmas, dog moms, sports moms, business owners, doulas, Christians, and a whole lot of things in between! 😂

We wear a lot of hats, juggle a lot of roles, and show up in so many different ways. But one thing we have in common? We’re passionate about helping families feel confident, supported, and prepared for birth. 🫶🏼

Because behind every educator is a real woman with her own story, her own family, her own faith, and her own beautiful kind of chaos. 😂🤍

We’re so much more than what we do, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

And that’s exactly why we created Made for Birth & Beyond — an online childbirth education course to help you feel informed, empowered, and ready for your birth experience.

Because every family deserves to feel prepared! 🤍

✨ Ready to feel more confident going into birth? Check out our course at the link in our bio!

Which room are you living in? 👻

Part ONE of the tour:

Room 1, everyone’s birth horror story on repeat. 😱

Room 2, the appointment is over before you find your voice. 🙊

Room 3, asking a question makes you the difficult patient. 🙋🏻‍♀️

Room 4, it is 2 a.m. and the search results keep getting scarier. 🌙 📱

Room 5, your induction is already on the calendar at 39 weeks, just in case. 🗓️

Room 6, just show up and let everyone else decide. 👎🏼

Room 7, the cervical exam, strongly urged, again. 🖐️

Room 8, the membrane sweep, presented as no big deal. 🧹

That is only half the house. Rooms 9 to 16 are waiting in Part TWO tomorrow!

Context is everything. 😅

The things doulas say every single day in birth work would sound *very* different in a corporate office, and that’s kind of the point. In birth, this language is normal, practical, and exactly what families need to hear.

Your turn: give us your best birth-work line that would send HR into a spiral. Doulas, midwives, nurses, educators, we’re counting on you. 👇

And if you’re expecting: our insurance-covered birth classes pair a comprehensive online course with doula-led telehealth sessions, so you can walk into your birth feeling prepared, not powerless. Most California Kaiser & Health Net plans are covered for eligible members, and 26 to 36 weeks is the sweet spot to start! ✨
