Sometimes the most powerful part of a conversation comes at the end.

When I sat down with our chaplain and bereavement coordinator, Miranda Denler a few weeks back, we spoke about her role as a member of an diverse team, with her job being to provide spiritual insight and practical tools for families in need of emotional care.

We ended up closing the conversation with a prayer, and I wanted to share that clip with you.

For anyone carrying grief, searching for peace, or holding space for someone they love; know that we hear you, and we care.

We were honored to host last week’s Regional Meeting in partnership with the Illinois Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (IL HPCO) at House of Goshen.

It was a full and engaging session, bringing together professionals across the region for meaningful discussion, shared insights, and continued collaboration in advancing hospice and palliative care.

The meeting featured presentations from Ellen, with valuable updates and conversations around key industry topics—including evolving regulations, best practices in patient care, and ongoing developments related to Medical Aid in Dying (MAID).

We’re grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to such a thoughtful and impactful gathering, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations together.

Stay cool Chicago!

Much of the Midwest is currently experiencing a dangerous heat wave that can become lethal if we’re not vigilant, so please look out for yourself and others.

CDC advises that people drink water throughout the day, keep activity light, and spend time in cool, air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.

If someone starts feeling dizzy, weak, confused, or nauseous, get help right away.

Let’s make sure nobody gets through this heat alone: check on family, friends, and neighbors, and make a plan for staying cool today.

Meet Reverend Carlene Appel and her beautiful dog, Gracie!

"Rev" as we call her serves the mission of Oasis with pride. She is both our pet therapist, and one of the chaplains here at Oasis Hospice and House of Goshen.

We had a sit down with her a few weeks back to discuss all that goes into such a niche field, why Oasis is unique in its offering of alternative therapies, and how she combats some of the misconceptions families often have of hospice chaplains, and of hospice care at large.
