Susan Shaffer

Susan VanOverberg Benhart Shaffer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home on July 3, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on January 29, 1950, in Moline, IL, Susan was the daughter of Albert Earl VanOverberg and Elsie Serlet. Her childhood was spent in Salida, Colorado until her family returned to Moline. She graduated from Moline High School in 1968. Her life was a testament to kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith.

Susan's life was blessed with love and family. She married her first husband, Roger Benhart, on April 18, 1970. Their three sons, David, Scott, and Matthew, remember her as a nurturing and devoted mother who instilled in them the values of compassion and integrity. Susan and Roger's marriage of 25 years ended in 1995.

Susan found love again and in 2007 married Daniel Shaffer. Their time together was filled with shared laughter, adventures through travel, and the comfort of companionship until his passing in 2019. Susan's ability to love deeply and embrace life with an open heart was a testament to her indomitable spirit.

A woman of deep faith, Susan was actively involved in her church communities, both at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Geneseo and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline. Her faith was not only a guiding light in her life but a beacon of hope she shared with others. Continued talks during outreach programs became a staple of hers, primarily focusing on the power of prayer.

Susan found immense joy in quilting, a hobby that allowed her to create beautiful, intricate pieces filled with love and care. She was a lifelong learner gaining as much knowledge as possible through books, her travels, and programs. Those who knew her were touched by her generosity of spirit and genuine kindness, qualities that enriched the lives of everyone around her.

Susan's legacy is carried on by her sons, David Benhart; Scott Benhart and his wife, Suzanne; and Matthew Benhart and his wife, Melissa. She leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Alynna, Rowan, Angela, Michelle, and Evelyn, who were the lights of her life and her greatest pride.

Susan is proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Sherry Beldin. She is survived by siblings Kathy (Lee) Guldenphennig, John VanOverberg, and Shelley (Scott) VanOverberg.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved during a visitation service on Thursday, July 16th, 2026, from 4:00-6:00pm at Wendt Funeral Home, located at 1811 15th Street Place in Moline, IL. A funeral Mass to honor and celebrate Susan's life will be held on Friday, July 17th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, located at 1608 13th Street, Moline, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Susan's memory to the Hospice Foundation of America.

Richard Kinney

Richard “Rich” Kinney, of Moline, Illinois, was born January 28, 1952, in Dodge City, Kansas, and peacefully passed away July 4, 2026, at Overlook Village in Moline, at the age of 74.

Rich was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A 1970 graduate of Moline High School, he went on to build a long and dedicated career with John Deere. He worked at the John Deere Foundry and later at Harvester Works, retiring in 2008 after many years of loyal service.

Rich had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons, and was also an avid fisherman, appreciating the quiet and calm of time spent on the Rock River with his brother, Jim. At home, his garage was his favorite place to be, his own “man cave” where he could relax, tinker, and enjoy life at his own pace. Surrounded by his impressive collection of beer cans, trays, and signs, Rich took pride in each piece, enjoying the character and stories behind them. With blues music often playing in the background, it was a space that perfectly reflected his easygoing nature and the simple things he loved most.

Known as a man of few words, Rich expressed himself through quiet kindness, a steady presence, and a gentle spirit that left a lasting impression on those who knew him. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and enjoyed sharing those passions with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard F. and Leoba (Deiser) Kinney. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia (Tingley) Kinney; his children, Chris Kinney (Kate) and Amy Kinney (Kyle Elliott); his cherished grandchildren, Rylie Schnack and Jessica and Joshua Kinney; his brother, James “Jim” Kinney (Eve); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, July 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by the burial at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to QC Paws (Rock Island County Animal Shelter).

Rich will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep love for his family, and the simple, meaningful joys that defined his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Anthony I. Ramos

Anthony I. Ramos, born February 10, 2002, in Moline, IL, passed away in his hometown on July 2, 2026. Anthony’s life, though far too short, was marked by both a depth of heart and a keen, reflective spirit. He was a loving and devoted individual, known for his remarkable memory for details, a quality that allowed him to truly see and remember the people and moments that mattered most to him.

Anthony graduated from Moline High School in 2020, a milestone celebrated with pride by his family and friends. He went on to attend a community college in DuPage, Illinois, furthering his education and broadening his horizons.

Music and movies were among Anthony’s greatest passions. He found joy and inspiration through these interests, often sharing his discoveries and insights with those around him. Nature walks offered Anthony time for self-reflection, a practice that exemplified his thoughtful approach to life. He cherished these quiet moments outdoors, which provided him opportunities to process life’s experiences.

Family was at the center of Anthony’s world. He especially treasured family vacations to Orange Lake, Florida, where he created lasting memories filled with laughter, conversation, and togetherness. Those who knew him will remember that his happiest times were spent surrounded by loved ones, reflecting the depth of his devotion to family.

Anthony leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold his memory dear: His father and stepmother, Roberto S. and Cheryl Ramos; his mother and stepfather, Heather Jo Rodriguez and Alex Galvez; his sisters, Alexxis Ramos, Arianna Galvez, Alyssa Galvez and Alison Desbles; his brother, Elijah Helms; his grandmothers, Leticia Reyna, Cindy Kuta, and Barbara Yandell; his grandfathers, Armando Ruiz and John Davila; his aunts, Regina Granado, Felicia Davila, and Monica Ramsey; his uncles, Shawn Davila and Armando Ruiz Jr.; his brothers/cousins, Eli Granado and Emmet Reyna; cousins, Mariah Nelson, Gaje Davila, Chloie Ruiz, Amaiya Ruiz, Alex Katzenburger, Zane Katzenburger, and many more relatives who were touched by his life.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alejandro Ramos and George Kuta, who now welcome him with open arms.

Anthony’s reflective nature, loving heart, and devotion to family will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed, yet his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration.
