If you’ve ever walked through an older cemetery, you may have noticed that many graves are arranged with the deceased’s feet toward the east and head toward the west.

This tradition has deep roots in Christianity. Historically, graves were often positioned this way so the deceased would symbolically face the rising sun and, according to Christian tradition, be facing east at the resurrection.
The practice also gave many cemeteries a consistent layout, though burial customs vary by culture, religion, cemetery and time period.

After returning from vacation, Scottish bacteriologist Alexander Fleming noticed that mold had contaminated one of his culture dishes and that bacteria surrounding the mold had been destroyed.
