A play kitchen is so much more than pots, pans, and pretend food—it’s a language-rich environment where little ones can practice communication skills through play.

While “cooking,” children can work on:
- Naming foods, utensils, and actions
- Following directions (“Put the apple in the bowl!”)
- Combining words into phrases and sentences
- Answering and asking questions
-Practicing turn-taking and social communication
-Using imagination to create stories and pretend scenarios

The best part? They’re learning while having fun! Play gives children a natural reason to communicate, experiment with language, and connect with others.

Books are more than stories—they’re an opportunity to build early communication skills! Reading together helps children learn new vocabulary, practice listening and comprehension, understand how sentences work, and learn to express their own ideas.

You don’t have to read every word! Point, talk, ask questions, make predictions, and let your child turn the pages. Even a few minutes of shared reading each day can make a big difference in early language development.
