Staying active this summer? Dr. Steven Potter reminds us that some aches are normal when getting back into exercise, but sharp pain that starts during an activity and lingers for days could signal an injury. He also notes that ankle sprains and fractures are especially common in the summer, often from slips and trips in flip-flops or sandals.

A little stretching, a proper warm-up and the right footwear can go a long way in helping you stay injury-free all season long.

While ticks are more active in summer months, tick season never really ends in North Carolina since the weather is so mild. Whenever you’re spending time outside be sure to take these precautions to avoid :⁣

🌳 Apply insect repellent containing DEET to exposed skin and clothing. ⁣
🥾 Wear clothing and gear, such as boots, long pants, long sleeve shirts and socks. ⁣
⛺️ Shower as soon as possible after coming indoors to wash off and more easily find ticks. ⁣
🌳 Conduct a full-body tick check using a hand-held or full-length mirror to view all parts of your body. ⁣
