Garry Gene Rollins

Garry Gene Rollins, 85, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026. He was born in Union County, NC on October 4, 1941, son to the late Walter Sterling Rollins and Ruby Gordon Rollins. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Rushing Rollins, brother, Bill Rollins, and brother-in-law, Norman Lynn Temple.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2026 at Love Baptist Church, 707 Deese Rd. Monroe, NC 28110, with interment to follow at Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.

Garry is survived by his son, Chris Rollins, brother, Ronny Rollins (Wanda), sisters, Linda Rollins Temple, Patsy Rollins, and sister-in-law, Flo Rollins.

John Paul Hinson

John Paul Hinson, 95, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026. He was born in Union County, NC on February 9, 1931, son to the late John Alonzo Hinson and Eulalia Little Hinson. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Hinson, Steve Hinson, Victor Hinson, and sister, Beatrice Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112, with interment to follow at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service. At other times, the family will be meeting at 1717 Sikes Mill Rd. Monroe, NC 28110.

John is survived by his significant other, Carol Faulkenberry, daughter, Teresa Clippard, and grandson, Carlton Clippard, and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was a proud Navy veteran and served for thirty years.

Larry Norwood

Larry Norwood, 84, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at his home. He was born in Lancaster, SC on January 4, 1942, son to the late Walter Tonsy Norwood and Artie Elizabeth Brady Norwood. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter and Clyde, as well as his sisters, Pansy and Annie.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service. The family will receive friends following the service at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.

Larry spent his entire life in Waxhaw, where he grew up farming with his family. He learned how to work and work hard at a very early age. He was in the masonry business, a contractor, and president of W.T. Norwood, Inc. before retiring. When he decided to do something, no matter how monumental, you could count on it getting done.

Larry loved fast cars and racing, building and fixing things, tractors, planting and harvesting, talking to people, his friends, and most of all his family. His children were his pride and joy.

The void that he leaves in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him can never be filled but the memories and the stories will live on and if you knew Larry, there was definitely a story. He was a unique, complex individual and will be greatly missed but there is comfort in knowing that he is at peace, free of pain, and looking down on us telling us to dry it up. Get back to work.

Larry is survived by his wife Susan Barringer Culpeper Norwood; sons, Larry Norwood Jr. (Angie) and Bill Culpeper (Kim); daughters, Tammy Foster (Joseph), Lisa Weeks (Mark Whitley), and Kathleen Culpeper; grandchildren, Noah Gaydos, Emma Montalvo (Justice), Macon Weeks, Siler Norwood (Bristol), Seth Norwood, Michael Culpeper, and Elizabeth Culpeper; great-grandchildren, Galilea Gaydos, Nova Gaydos, Luna Gaydos, and Blair Hill; and his brother, Tommy Norwood.

Patsy Ruth Coleman, 86, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. She was born in Pike County, KY, on July 12, 1940, daughter to the late Ray Webb and Louisa Varney Webb. She is also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Harold Dean Coleman, daughter, Marlene Louise Coleman, two brothers, Charles Webb, Mark Webb, as well as three sisters, Lydia Merritt, Rayetta Webb, and Shirley Webb.

Don A. Horne, Sr.

With heavy hearts, we share that our dad, Don A. Horne Sr., of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 87. Originally from Peachland, NC, he was born on May 14, 1939 to the late Herman Horne and Agnes Threadgill Horne. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Herman “Sonny” Horne.

A memorial gathering for the family to receive friends and share memories will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112.

Don spent 87 years perfecting a dry sense of humor that could catch you completely off guard, and a kindness that never needed an announcement.

Don was happiest when he was tinkering around the house or in his garage, where there was always something to build, fix, or create. He found joy in working with his hands and taking pride in every project, no matter how big or small. For Don, those simple moments of creating and fixing things were some of life’s greatest pleasures.

A dedicated gun enthusiast, Don was knowledgeable about fi****ms, old and new, and took great pride in crafting his own am******on by hand. He also had a soft spot for knives, coins, and cast iron, and if you asked him about any of them, you’d better have pulled up a chair first. When he was not in the garage, you would find him in the garden, coaxing up everything from tomatoes to flowers.

Don is survived by his children, Lori Zammit (Dave), Don Horne Jr. (Christine), and Robert “Bobby” Horne; and his grandsons, Brandon Zammit, Ryan Zammit, Ethan Horne and Mason Horne.

Robert Scott Elliott

Robert “Bob” Scott Elliott, 62, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 11, 1964. He is the son to Mary Jane Elliott and the late Douglas Elliott, he is also preceded in death by his brother, John D. Elliott.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Lee Park Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00PM until 2:45PM in the church.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Angela Shuman Elliott, daughter, Robyn Cross, three stepdaughters, Brittany Platt (Richard), Melissa McIntosh, and Sara Stott (Dylan), brother, James Elliott (Mary), father-in-law, James Shuman, brother-in-law, Jim Shuman (AnneMarie), ten grandchildren; Carolina Platt, Annelise Platt, Emeline Platt, Finley Baker, Charlie Cross, Banks Platt, Scarlet Cross, Mila Platt, Briella Platt, and Harriet Stott, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was truly a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, son, and friend, fiercely proud of his family, and he lived his faith every single day, spreading the love of Christ through his actions, not just his words. He was a champion of hard work and steadfast manliness, always ready with a perfect line to bring a smile to everyone’s face. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of devotion and support to his family, friends, and anyone blessed enough to truly know him.

Carol Correll Poston

Carol Correll Poston, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter.

Born July 9, 1960, Carol was the daughter of the late Mildred “Jackie” Correll and Eugene “Gene” Correll. She was one of ten children. While her family was large, she shared especially close bonds with her sisters, the late Kathy Correll Cox and Connie Correll Frantz. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Walter “Dub” Correll, Ronald Eugene Correll, Dennis Eugene Correll, and Carolyn Naomi Correll, who passed away as a baby, and her beloved daughter, Carolyn Marie Poston. Her brothers Billy Wayne Correll, Charles “Bobby” Correll, and Larry Ronald Correll survive.

She is survived by her loving husband and soulmate of 50 years, Kenneth Eugene Poston. Their life together was built on deep love, loyalty, and unwavering support.

She is also survived by her children, Marilyn Poston Griffin (Tim), Kenneth Eugene Poston II (Kim), and Julianna Poston Luke (Edward); her grandchildren, Victoria Jacqueline Price, Erin Hope Griffin, Wesley Clyde Griffin, Kendle Faye Griffin, Kayleigh Nicole Poston, Kristen Abigail Poston, Kenneth Eugene Poston III, Aiden Scott Luke, Joel Kenneth Luke, and Aaron Gray Luke; and her great-grandchildren, Stephen Elijah “Eli” Matchett, Evelyn Jean “Evie” Matchett, and Mason Tyler Helms.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM until 5:45 PM at Gordon Funeral Service.

Carol was a beautiful person inside and out, known for her quick wit and unmistakable sense of humor. She could make people laugh at just the right moment and had a way of bringing light into even the hardest days.

She worked as a city bus driver for CATS for many years and also spent time as a school bus driver, where she built meaningful connections with the students she transported. Many will remember her kindness, her patience, and the steady presence she brought to their daily routines. Her true passion was her work as a tax preparer, a career she enjoyed for more than 40 years. She genuinely loved helping people and took pride in her knowledge, always making sure those she helped felt taken care of.

Carol had a special way of making people feel like family-whether they were lifelong friends, neighbors, or people she met along the way. She gathered people into her life and held them close.

She will be remembered for her loving heart, her humor, her strength, and her deep devotion to her family. Her love will live on in the many lives she touched.
