Marijane Mageret Nichole Cook, 27, of Monrovia, unexpectedly passed away in her sleep on August 17, 2026, after enduring complications from pneumonia. Born on March 17, 1999, in Danville, Indiana, to Adam D. Cook and Chrysti (Pugh) Cook, Marijane lived life entirely on her own terms with relentless determination and a fearless spirit.

Growing up, Marijane attended Monrovia Elementary and High School with the Class of 2017, along with brief periods at Mooresville and Eminence. Having lost her mother at a very young age, Marijane carried that profound heartache with her, which deeply shaped her resilience and her longing for close family connections.

Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at just four months old, Marijane spent her life defying odds and facing daily treatments with grit and grace. Though doctors once doubted she would make it to her teenage years, her fearless and stubborn resolve proved otherwise. Marijane was a true social butterfly who never met a stranger, making friends wherever she went and lighting up every room she entered. She loved four wheeling in the woods, tearing around on her side-by-side, bumping loud rap music, and cruising in her favorite purchase—a '93 maroon and gray Mustang convertible. While she wasn’t always the best judge of character when it came to others, she was fiercely independent, determined, and destined to forge her own unique path through the world.

Jimmy "Gale" Hood, age 83, of Mooresville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on April 29, 1943, in Lafayette, Macon County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Burford and Lois Dean (Jones) Hood.

Gale grew up in Tennessee alongside his seven siblings during a time when hard work was simply a way of life for the entire family. His strong work ethic started early—by just six years old, he was already out in the fields working a team of horses. In the later part of his teenage years, Gale moved to Indiana near Bean Blossom, where he found early work picking to***co for Bill Monroe.

Over the years, Gale built a career defined by dedication, skill, and resourceful ingenuity. A man with big farm hands and a kind, respectful heart, he began working in maintenance with United Oil, then spent many years refurbishing mobile homes as a private contractor for Fleetwood and Conseco.

Outside of work, Gale was as genuine as they come—a true patriarch, a dedicated father, and the steady anchor for his family, pouring his love into raising over three generations of children who adored him deeply. Known for his straightforward "no-filter" honesty, humor, and quiet authority, he had a signature look that ensured no one ever wanted to disappoint him.

Linda Irene Potter, 82, of Monrovia, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born October 8, 1943, in Martinsville, to the late Lester Oliver “Bud” Hicks and Dorothy (Troutman) Hicks.

A proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1961, she continued her education at Indiana Business College, earning her associate degree. She spent 30 years working in the Anesthesia Department at Indiana University School of Medicine as an office administrator specializing in medical billing, retiring in 2005. A past member of Monrovia United Methodist Church, Linda spent time giving back to others through volunteer work at St. Francis Hospital, where she volunteered with mail, reception, and hospice.

Linda was the big sister who shared a close bond with her younger brother, Rick. A unique and quirky woman she was private in many ways, but those who knew her best knew how deeply she loved and cared for her family. She had a way of worrying over the people she loved—not because she wanted to interfere, but because she cared fiercely and wanted everyone to be safe and happy.

Later in life, Linda met Richard Hurst, and the two shared an instant connection when they met at Gray’s for dinner. Their relationship was filled with companionship, conversation and many treasured memories. She loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new places. Nina J. (Scott) Kenworthy Henderson, 80, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the comfort of her own home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on July 7, 1946, in Indianapolis, to the late Robert L. Scott and Mabel Louise (Burns) Chaplin.

A woman defined by her deep faith, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family, Nina lived a life marked by selflessness, loyalty, and generosity. Known for her caring heart and responsible nature, she leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide all who knew her.

Nina worked as a statement operator for Allison Payment Systems—a place that held an extra special meaning in her life, as it is where she met her loving husband, Phil. Outside of work, Nina was happiest when surrounding herself with the simple pleasures of life and the people she cherished most.

She was an avid gardener who loved tending to her plants and crafting beautiful arrangements for her patio. A phenomenal cook and baker, family gatherings were always blessed by her famous persimmon pudding, cinnamon pie, potato salad, and ham salad. Above all else, Nina’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.

Nina was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Kenworthy; beloved son, Tim Heitzman; great-grandchild, Lilly "Sweet Pea"; brothers, Daniel Scott and John Robert Noel.

William Cornwell, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, while in the care of Meadow Lakes in Mooresville. He was born May 11, 1931, to William and Margaret Josephine (Schmitt) Cornwell of Evansville, Indiana.

Born with a very active curiosity streak, he always investigated how things were made or worked. Nothing upset him more than to come across something that was welded, riveted or sealed with epoxy. What he didn’t know (but was interested in) he found the answer to in books or people who did have the knowledge. He was tested (by the University of Southern California) with a 98.8 percentile.

In his lifetime, he successfully became: a certified scuba diver, a licensed pilot of sail and prop type aircraft, licensed broadcast engineer (with a 1st Phone ticket), Captain of a cruising sailboat, and a self-taught Organist. He was a member of the AGO (American Guild of Organist, (Indianapolis Chapter). As an organist, he helped install pipe organs, and he played for three churches, and being a Past Master of the Masonic fraternity, became the Grand Organist for the Masonic Lodge, and all four of the Yorkrite bodies.

He wed Sherry Gay Agner, a high school friend of his sister, in August of 1957. He is survived by his wife after 65+ years of marriage, son Michael Lee Cornwell, and one grandson Michael Robert Cornwell, both members of the Army. He is also the uncle to a niece Anne (Wolfinger) Wright, and a nephew Alan Wolfinger.

Paul Edward Harrell, age 36, of Monrovia, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following a tragic automobile accident near his home.

Born in Indianapolis on September 6, 1989, Paul was the beloved son of Cassandra "Cassie" (Craig) and Kenneth W. Jackson.

He spent the majority of his school years attending Monrovia Schools and attended high school with the Indian Creek Class of 2008. Growing up, he was a "quiet and wild" kid—spending his youth riding bikes, skateboarding in Morgantown, and watching Jackass rather than playing traditional sports. As the oldest sibling—four years older than Evan and ten years older than Julia—Paul naturally stepped into the role of protective big brother and leader of his friend group.

Paul was a passionate, authentic, and complex soul. Known for having "no filter," a deep capacity for forgiveness, and a heart overflowing with love, he had a rare instinct to listen to anyone in need and try to solve their problems, even while navigating his own. He knew the Bible inside and out, was baptized, and carried a deep spiritual foundation. A lover of live concerts and pushing limits, Paul expressed his creative energy as a musician, playing grunge, punk-rock, and metal with his bands, Dope-ler Effect and Jesus & the Rejects.

William Matthew "Matt" Carte, 54, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones at home on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born on April 5, 1972, in Indianapolis to the late John Wansba Carte and Esther Jane (Hess) Carte.

Growing up in Mooresville as one of four children, Matt attended Mooresville High School with the class of 1990. He proudly enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1991 and served his country for 21 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served during Operation Noble Eagle, guarding the Indianapolis Airport and Stout Field following the events of September 11. He was deployed to Iraq in 2008 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was also briefly deployed to Germany. His family remembers him as an American hero whose dedication to his country was matched only by his devotion to them.

Matt met the love of his life at the beauty shop his sister was working at when her coworker, Christina Herbstreit, quite literally fell for him. He got her number and then a year later they were engaged on Valentine’s Day. Stanley Allen Trusty, 87, was called home to His Lord from Vassar Comfort Care, Vassar, Michigan, on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Stanley was born on August 11, 1938, in Linton, Indiana and was a lifelong resident of Morgan County, Indiana.

Stanley graduated from Coal City High School in 1956 and then completed a four-year apprenticeship in tool and die making.

On September 28, 1956, Stanley married his High School Sweetheart, Shirley Lee. They would have celebrated their 70thwedding anniversary this year.

Stanley retired in 1991 after working 35 years at General Motors as a tool and die maker. He was a member of Gasburg Baptist Church since 1962. Stanley was a Boy Scout Leader for 6 years and avid Water skier, Camper, and Fisherman and most of all ‘Master Tinkerer’.

Along with his wife, Shirley, survivors include his two sons, Jerry (Kathryn) Trusty and Kenneth (Trena) Trusty; sister, Rhonda (Eric) May; four grandchildren, Jessica DeWeese, Mallory Trusty, Laura Estes, and Keith (Tori) Trusty; along with five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Cassidy Trusty, and parents, Grover and Esther Trusty.

Funeral will be held at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia, Indiana on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, with Pastor Jack Elliot officiating. Joseph Lee “Joe” Holloway, 66, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Franciscan Hospice House. He was born in Martinsville on February 3, 1960, the late James Monroe Holloway and Sarah Maxine (Duncan) Holloway.

The youngest of eight children, Joe was raised in Spencer, Indiana, where he enjoyed a country upbringing and spent countless hours with his grandparents, along with boyhood shenanigans with his brothers, creating the kind of childhood memories and adventures that became cherished stories throughout his life. His journey later took him through Akron and Illinois before eventually settling in Monrovia, a community he proudly called home.

Joe attended Monrovia High School and proudly graduated with the class of 1978. For more than twenty years, he worked as a florist with Madison Avenue Flower Shop, where his creativity, eye for beauty, and love for people made him a natural fit. He possessed a remarkable artistic talent and expressed himself through ceramics, pottery, jewelry making, decorating, and music. An accomplished potter, Joe often demonstrated his craft at local events, including taking his pottery wheel to Anderson Orchard so others could experience the joy of creating. He also shared his talents as a teacher’s assistant in pottery classes and contributed his decorative skills to Christmas programs and community events.
