I thought I had a small leak.
My house had other plans.
What started as a little stain and a seemingly simple repair turned into three contractors, opened walls, exposed beams, and the discovery of years of hidden damage.
At one point, standing in my kitchen looking at a giant hole in the ceiling, I couldn’t help but laugh.
This is therapy!!!! This is the soul’s school for us.
People often come into my office wanting relief from anxiety, burnout, overwhelm, self-doubt, relationship struggles, or the same repetitive pain points that keep showing up.
The symptom gets all the attention.
But the symptom is rarely the source.
The stain on the wall wasn’t the problem.
It was evidence that something deeper needed attention.
And while it can be inconvenient, messy, expensive, and uncomfortable to strip things back to the studs, there is something incredibly satisfying about finally finding the leak.
Not just patching the drywall. Not just managing the symptom. Actually repairing the damage.
Addressing the root cause.
Freedom lives underneath the pain points. Isn’t that exciting!? I don’t know, maybe I’m a weirdo (which I’ve accepted… but won’t you join me?)
Underneath the anxiety. Underneath the people-pleasing. Underneath the resentment. Underneath the fear. Underneath the stories we’ve learned to survive by.
The work is not simply to feel better. The work is to become free, by facing things, not running away from things.
Free to choose differently.
Free to respond differently.
Free to live from intention instead of old wounds.
That is the gift of healing.
For houses.
For relationships.
For ourselves.
