Food from the earth is the greatest gift we have.

Plants, legumes, nuts and seeds have some nice side effects too of bettering the soil, the air we breathe, the water we drink and provide an entire biome and home for microorganisms. Most of the wisest and most spiritually-oriented and connected people will also tell you a simplified plant-based diet strengthens their spiritual connection; I can vouch for this personally.

Plants require way less resourcing compared to processed foods and animal/factory farming and they leave no trace behind... not even close to the case with animal farming and packaged goods.

To date, I have not met a person or patient that developed a health concern from eating too many vegetables. I can’t say that about dairy, meat, salt, processed foods, coffee and sugar.

Humans have made something so simple, incredibly complicated and a lot of that is to confuse you, make you buy things you don’t need and frankly make you ill. Nature has no interest in your money; it has interest in your consciousness.

Man seems to think one day it will conquer nature somehow through science and magic pills, but the truth is it will never be able to touch the power of nature. It could only assist in making it more powerful and accessible to more people.

Consciousness starts with what you consume in all respects and if you think your food has nothing to do with anxiety, depression, insomnia, energy, fertility, immunity and disease/pain, then it is time to get back to basics. Not new basics, really old basics.

Is it appropriate to want to shed a tear when you realize you are about to eat the last of the kale and radishes from the final harvests of my 2020 quarantine garden?

I can’t tell you how much life this little backyard garden gave me at such an uncertain time. We had some sort of fresh organic produce until just this morning. I got to rediscover myself and my passion for plants and plant medicine. I got to use creative sides of myself, I hadn’t used in a while. I got to breakthrough moments of “I don’t know how to do this and I don’t know what I am doing” over and over and that was liberating. I got to reconnect with my father and share joy and disappointment with him at different stages of the game. I got to laugh a lot over the animal entertainment we witnessed and when the work we were doing had us feel a little delirious. I learned how easily plants forgive and how I could too. I learned how good it felt to be outside so much and in meditative states for long periods of time. I got to connect with other local gardeners and share plants, stories and concerns together. I loved hearing from others that my sharing of my journey was awakening something in them. I learned that I may just need to own a farmland in my future because my heart can’t seem to focus on anything else. I have had many people approach me to say they would move with me or support me if I did.

All of this from a garden that came when the world and my business shut down and I didn’t know what else to do. And the best part is, I have fallen back in love with myself and have learned to trust myself and that the limitations that show up in my life are only here to ignite my creativity and remind me of all there is to be grateful for.

I hope you can also see where 2020 and all of its parts are here to help you surrender to who you are meant to be and all that you already have inside of you. With love and gratitude.

As a Ta**us, I crave and deeply appreciate sensory experiences in nature. The sound of light snow/sleet in the forest is one of my favorites. Happy Wednesday!

I walked out of my office after another incredible day of engagement only to be greeted by this powerful moon just before the eclipse. I have such gratitude for the beings that have wandered into my life in the last couple months to show me my power and make me want to work and love harder than I ever have before. This moon, in this moment, felt like an acknowledgement to honor my own nature and then bear witness to the impact that emanates from the most authentic of places.

Allow yourself to be moved... happy lunar eclipse!

“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.” – Deng Ming-Dao

There are so many ways to eat and we all have different bodies, conditions, sensitivities/allergies, local environmental concerns, belief systems, heritages and needs/goals related to our health.

However, for most, nutrient-dense, as fresh as possible, with the least amount of pesticides should be the goal. Kale has been my go to for the last 20 years, however in recent years it can be one of the most laden with pesticides, so organic or your own back yard is best.

I like to pack it in early in the day as it reduces my cravings for sugar and other processed foods. It is still growing in my yard as we hit freeze level temps and I add fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme and oregano that I also grow and it feels like I just dosed myself with the easiest most accessible medicine.

Food is the first place you should start with your health. Step up the nutrient content and freshness and you will naturally crowd out the crap. In winter our output should be less than other seasons, so make every bite count.

This prayer has changed the lives of so many, including mine. These words keep people tethered when they may be lost. This prayer’s significance provides access to letting go and yet consciousness of choice. It provides hope of a better day and yet paves a path to working through pain. It helps us to take one day at a time hand in hand with others taking a courageous path with a little more trust and love for ourselves. With love to those who use this prayer regularly one day at a time and to all those who will soon embrace it for a new view of life.
