What is Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)? 🧠

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a trauma therapy that helps address the brain’s automatic responses to overwhelming experiences—responses that can arise before we have words for what we’re feeling.

Rather than requiring you to focus on the story of what happened—which can feel overwhelming—DBR gently works with the underlying brain and nervous-system responses connected to trauma.

At ANPNJ, DBR is one of the ways we bring together neuroscience, attunement, and relationship-centered care to support each person’s individual healing process.

Watch as we break down what DBR is, how it works, and why it can be such a meaningful tool in trauma therapy. 💙

Have you ever wondered if what you're experiencing is actually your nervous system asking for support?

Many of the experiences we struggle with aren't character flaws, lack of motivation, or signs that something is "wrong" with us. Often, they're signs of a nervous system working hard to adapt, cope, and protect.

This can look like:
• Feeling chronically overwhelmed
• Being constantly "on edge"
• Emotional reactivity
• Difficulty focusing
• Trouble resting
• Sleep disruption
• Shutdown or numbness

When the nervous system becomes stuck in survival patterns, everyday life can begin to feel exhausting. What may appear as anxiety, irritability, disconnection, or difficulty concentrating can sometimes be the nervous system's attempt to manage ongoing stress, overwhelm, or past experiences.

The good news? The brain and nervous system remain capable of change throughout life. Neurofeedback is one tool that can help support greater regulation, flexibility, resilience, and recovery from stress by helping the brain develop more adaptive patterns of functioning.

At ANPNJ, we integrate neurofeedback within an attuned, whole-person approach to healing—supporting not just symptom reduction, but the development of lasting nervous system capacity.

Few people fundamentally change both how clinicians understand and practice their work—and what becomes possible for the clients they serve. Sebern Fisher is one of them.

Her work has profoundly shaped our understanding of neurofeedback, developmental trauma, and what it means to truly work with the nervous system—not simply to change brainwave activity or reduce symptoms, but to listen carefully to what the brain is communicating.

Many of the principles at the heart of our Attuned Approach have been deeply influenced by Sebern’s mentorship, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to clinical curiosity, humility, and compassion. She has continually reminded us that behind every EEG is a person whose nervous system has adapted in intelligent and meaningful ways.

We are thrilled to celebrate the release of her newest book—another deeply important contribution to the field.

Whether you are new to neurofeedback or have been practicing for many years, Sebern’s work invites all of us to think more deeply, listen more carefully, and remain attuned to the person behind the patterns we see.

Congratulations, Sebern. We are deeply grateful for all you have contributed and for the opportunity to continue learning from you.

✨ What regulation actually looks like ✨
Many people think regulation means being calm all the time.
It doesn't. Regulation isn't the absence of stress, emotion, or difficult experiences. It's the ability to move through them and return to balance.

Regulation looks like:
🌊 Flexibility when life changes
🌊 Recovery after stress
🌊 Reconnecting after disconnection
🌊 Having capacity—not striving for perfection

Our nervous systems were never designed to be calm 100% of the time. They were designed to adapt, respond, recover, and reconnect.

When the brain and nervous system become stuck in patterns of overwhelm, hypervigilance, shutdown, or dysregulation, it can become harder to access that natural flexibility.

Neurofeedback helps support the brain's capacity for regulation by providing real-time information that encourages healthier, more adaptive patterns of functioning.

Healing isn't about becoming perfectly calm.
It's about expanding your capacity to navigate life's waves. 💙

What makes the Attuned Approach different?

At ANPNJ, we don't believe healing happens through rigid protocols or one-size-fits-all treatment plans. Every brain, nervous system, and life story is unique.

The Attuned Approach is a neuroscience-informed, relationship-centered model that guides everything we do. Whether we're providing neurofeedback, psychotherapy, or other integrative services, we continuously adapt to what each person's nervous system is communicating in real time.

Our work is grounded in three core principles:
✨ Attunement
🧠 Neuroscience-Informed Understanding
🤝 Collaboration

By combining advanced neuroscience with genuine human connection and care, we help clients build greater regulation, resilience, flexibility, and well-being.

⚽️ As the world watches elite athletes compete on soccer's biggest stage, it's worth remembering that performance isn't just physical—it's neurological.

Many professional and Olympic athletes have incorporated neurofeedback into their training to help improve focus, attention, emotional regulation, reaction time, and recovery from mistakes.

You don't have to be playing in the World Cup to benefit from training your brain. Whether you're a competitive athlete or simply looking to function at your best, neurofeedback at ANPNJ can help you up your brain game.

A QEEG (Quantitative EEG) is a non-invasive assessment that measures your brain's electrical activity and creates a detailed map of brain functioning. At ANPNJ, we go beyond simply looking at brainwave activity—we also examine connectivity patterns and how different brain networks are communicating.

Most importantly, we don't interpret the brain map in isolation. We integrate QEEG findings with a comprehensive clinical assessment, your symptoms, history, and nervous system functioning to better understand the whole person.

A QEEG isn't about labeling or diagnosing you from a brain map. It's about gathering objective information that can help guide more personalized and effective treatment.

Think of it as a roadmap—helping us identify where support may be needed and informing neurofeedback and other interventions tailored to your unique brain and nervous system.
