"For the past year and one half my legs have felt increasingly brittle. So much so that I was expecting them to shatter every time I stepped off a curb or down a stairs.

Further, for about the same duration my knees have grown unstable. It has felt, every time I twisted or turned or put extra stress on it, that the ligament or tendon was coming off the bone and my knee was about to give out.

Also, I was having trouble walking, trouble not in terms of cardio/lung capacity but simply in terms of putting one foot in front of the other. Specifically, it felt like one of those elastic bands (like you probably have in your gym) was wrapped around my ankles and made as taught as possible.
