The only place your doctor can look at blood vessels without making a single incision? Your eyes. 👀
During a comprehensive eye exam, we can directly observe the tiny blood vessels in your retina. Changes in them may offer important clues about your circulation and conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure—sometimes before you notice symptoms.
We also evaluate your optic nerve, cornea, eye pressure, tear film and retina to identify subtle changes that a basic prescription check can miss.
Think of it this way: updating your prescription is checking the windshield. A comprehensive exam looks under the hood. And yes, your eyes come with surprisingly detailed “receipts.” 😉
These findings don’t replace a medical diagnosis, but they can help you know when further evaluation is needed.
📅 Let’s look beyond the eye chart. Schedule your comprehensive eye exam at Montebello Optometry.

What Life Actually Looks Like After Dry Eye Treatment

No more blinking through blurry vision during a work presentation. No more waking up with your eyes glued shut. No more carrying eye drops in every bag "just in case." 👀

That's not an exaggeration, that's what our patients tell us after completing treatment.

Here's what actually changes:

Mornings stop starting with discomfort. Patients who used to wake up with gritty, crusty, or painful eyes report starting their day without immediately reaching for drops.

Screens stop being the enemy. Hours at a computer used to mean burning and fatigue by 2pm. After treatment, many patients report they can work full days without that mid-afternoon eye exhaustion.

Makeup and contacts become an option again. For patients who had given up on contacts or eye makeup because their eyes couldn't tolerate them, treatment often reopens that door.

Sleep improves. Chronic dry eye disrupts sleep more than people realize. Less nighttime irritation means fewer interruptions and better rest.

Confidence comes back. Constant red, watery, or tired-looking eyes affect how people feel showing up in photos, meetings, or just looking in the mirror. Patients consistently mention feeling like themselves again.

These aren't temporary wins that fade in twenty minutes like a drop. These are results that last because the underlying problem was actually addressed.

✨ Tag someone who needs to see what's possible on the other side of dry eye.

Most people pick sunglasses the way they'd pick a hat: purely on style. Big mistake. 😎

Here's the uncomfortable truth: a $15 pair of sunglasses from a gas station can do more harm than good. If the lenses are dark but don't block UV rays, your pupils dilate to let in more light, and now UV radiation is flooding in unfiltered. You'd genuinely be better off wearing nothing.

So what actually matters?

UV protection first. Look for 100% UVA/UVB protection, not just "polarized." Polarized cuts glare; it doesn't guarantee UV blockage. Those are two different jobs.

Lens quality over lens color. Trendy tints are fun, but distortion-free, optically correct lenses matter more for long-term eye comfort, especially if you're already managing dry eye or light sensitivity.

Fit matters medically, not just aesthetically. Wraparound or larger frames block peripheral UV exposure, which is a real factor in preventing cataracts and pterygium over time.

If you have dry eye, prioritize coverage. Larger lenses and snugger fits reduce airflow to the ocular surface, which means less evaporation and more comfort outdoors.

The takeaway: sunglasses aren't just an accessory, they're protective eyewear. Treat the purchase accordingly.

👓 Come try on our boutique frame selection and let us help you find the pair that actually protects (and still looks incredible).

World Sjögren's Syndrome Day — July 23

Your eyes could be crying for help, and it's not about a bad breakup. 👁️

If you've been told your dry eye is "just dry eye" but nothing seems to work, it might be time to ask a bigger question: is your immune system attacking your own tear and salivary glands?

Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease where the body mistakenly targets the glands that produce moisture, leading to severe, chronic dry eye (and often dry mouth too). It disproportionately affects women, and it's frequently misdiagnosed for years because "dry eye" gets treated as a standalone annoyance instead of a symptom of something deeper.

Here's the part most people don't know: standard artificial tears won't touch this. Sjögren's-related dry eye often needs a layered approach — think amniotic membrane therapy to calm inflammation and regenerate the ocular surface, scleral lenses to protect the cornea and hold moisture in, and in-office treatments like LipiFlow or OptiLight IPL to support what's left of your natural tear function.

The real takeaway: if your dry eye symptoms are severe, persistent, and paired with dry mouth, joint pain, or fatigue, don't settle for "use more drops." Get evaluated for the root cause.

Follow the green dot with just your eyes — no head movement allowed 🟢👀

This is a basic version of something we actually use in vision therapy: eye tracking exercises. Smooth, controlled eye movement isn't automatic for everyone — some people's eyes jump, lose the target, or need extra effort just to follow something moving.

If that felt harder than it should, it might be more than just needing practice. Difficulty tracking can show up as trouble reading, losing your place on the page, or eye fatigue during near work — and it's exactly the kind of thing vision therapy is designed to improve.

Vision therapy isn't about getting glasses. It's a personalized program that retrains how your eyes move, focus, and work together.

Try it and tell us in the comments: easy, kind of tricky, or your eyes gave up halfway? 👇
