Edward Richard Rauber

Edward Richard Rauber, age 78, of Seaside passed away on July 27,

2026, after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and three

sons.

Born July 12, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA to Florian and Flora Rauber, he

was raised to value faith, family and hard work.

He served two years in the Army and was stationed in Germany, where

he met his wife, Gloria. The two were married in Germany, then moved

to Pittsburgh after ending his Army service time.

After the birth of their first son, they moved to the Monterey Peninsula

where they lived for nearly 50 years, and had two more sons.

Many will remember Edward by his active involvement with the music

ministry of his church, where he sang and played guitar each Sunday.

He also played for church retreats, as well as with various musicians

and groups throughout the years. He instilled in his sons his passion for

music, teaching them songs from The Beatles and Neil Young. He took

pride in supporting his sons’ musical ambitions as well as their

participation in sports.

He loved to cook, and was always ready to host a feast for family and

friends. He briefly opened a restaurant in Carmel, called The Gathering

Place.

He also enjoyed tending to his garden, wood working, and was an avid

Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Edward was a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 35, and worked

several roles in Social Services and Group Home Services before

working as an accountant for Sterling Pacific for the better part of 20

years.

He dedicated his life to serving others, and acted as an example of

unconditional love, faith, hope, giving, determination, and loyalty. He

never forgot, and continued to celebrate, his Pittsburgh roots.

Preceded in death by his eldest sibling, Roberta Espy, he leaves behind

his beloved wife of 53 years, Gloria, his brothers, John and James, his

sons, Chris, Aaron, and Josh, his grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren, his

Labrador, Trixi, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Service will be held on September 5th at St Francis Xavier Church in

Seaside at 10am

Joseph "Joe" Mendes

Joseph “Joe” Mendes went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 20, 2026 at the age of 88.

The eldest of three children, Joe was born Sept. 7, 1937, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Joseph Mendes and Alice Raphael. He moved to California in 1953, where he built a successful career as a builder and real estate investor.

Joe married Sylvie Mendes on June 23, 1986, and they shared 40 loving years together. In 1993, he built their family home in Aromas, where they welcomed two daughters and created countless family memories before moving to Monterey in 2010.

Joe leaves a legacy of loving and serving God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength. A devoted husband and father, he was known for his deep knowledge of Scripture and faithfully mentored many men in their walk with Christ. His example of faith continues through his children, grandchildren, and extended family.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Sylvie Mendes, his two brothers, and his two daughters.

LaMonte Allen Bateman was born to Theodore Wylie Clay Bateman and Georgie Gay Bronson Bateman on August 25, 1958, in Saginaw, Michigan. He was the seventh child and the first son. He was raised in Michigan and upstate New York, where he welcomed six younger siblings—two brothers and four sisters.

After graduating from high school, Monte attended Brigham Young University and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Bozeman, Montana Mission. He married his sweetheart, Louisa Calleen David, in the Oakland California Temple on November 26, 1983.

They lived in California, where their three children were born: JJ, Jessica, and Alex. After Louisa lost her battle with cancer in 1998, Monte moved his family to Utah. He eventually met and married Suzanne Dawson, with whom he had a daughter, Makela. Their marriage ended in 2018.

Monte was a talented musician, entrepreneur, and small-aircraft pilot. He played the violin, piano, and guitar and had a beautiful tenor voice.

Monte suffered a severe heart attack on July 23, 2026, and passed away at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, on July 25, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Launi and Gayla; his wife, Louisa; and his grandson, Roman. He is survived by his siblings Faline, Teddie, Lamona, Ladawn, Kelly, Holly, Brennan, Luella, Noelle, and Rachelle, as well as his four children: JJ, Jessica, Alex, and Makela.

Monte wished to be buried in Monterey, California, beside his beloved wife, Louisa. A fundraiser has been established to help fulfill that wish, and the family kindly requests donations in lieu of flowers. The link is https://gofund.me/ec6e64cee

Angelyn Marie Lucido-Seymour

Angelyn Marie Lucido-Seymour, 68, was born in Monterey, California, on October 27, 1957, growing

up and attending Monterey High School. Known for her generous heart and desire to help

others, Angelyn went on to study social work at Sacramento State University. It was in

Sacramento that she met David H. Seymour, who had recently left the United States Air

Force and lived in the same apartment complex. Soon after, they moved in together at the

Paradise Apartments, beginning an unwavering commitment to each other that led to their

marriage on August 1, 1981.

Angelyn and David moved to Fremont, California, in 1981 and later made their home on

Applewood Street in November 1984. Throughout these years, Angelyn faced the long-term

effects of type 1 diabetes, which she had been diagnosed with at age nine. She received a

kidney transplant and lost her eyesight in 1983, but these hardships did not deter her. She

deeply wanted to become a mother, and on March 16, 1993, Donovan C. Seymour was

born at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto, California.

With the support of her loving father, Ernest A. Lucido, Angelyn and David raised Donovan

in Fremont. Though their means were modest, they did everything they could to provide a

warm and loving home. Type 1 diabetes remained a challenge throughout Angelyn’s life,

and she spent more time in hospitals and doctors’ offices than most people do in a

lifetime. Even so, she remained strong and continued to show up for her family. The passing

of her father was especially difficult for her, but she always made time to lay flowers at his

grave in Monterey.

Angelyn loved her pets and had many throughout her life, including her dogs Nikki, Huffer,

Rosie, Ginger, Sally, Gracie, Bolo, Babygirl, Dinky, Ringo, and Jager, and her cats Bensen

and Simon.

After several years of searching, they found a home in Marina, California, in July 2024.

Angelyn loved being back near the ocean and close to family. The home became a refuge

from the busy, hectic life they had had in Fremont and a place to gather friends and family

for celebrations. Beginning in November 2024, Angelyn experienced health complications

that led to multiple hospital visits. On July 14, 2026, she passed away peacefully with her

husband and son holding her close. She was deeply loved by her family and by the

communities she was part of, and she will be remembered for her strength through years of

medical hardship, her devotion to those she loved, and the thoughtfulness and kindness

she showed to everyone.

Richard Kevin Hartman passed away peacefully at home at the age of 77, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in 1948 to Bernard Lee Hartman and Margeret Mary Cullen in Venice, California, Richard was an avid surfer, a dedicated academic and gifted tradesman. With numerous interests and desires, Richard found professional success first as a college professor, and then as a glazer. Richard was an astute businessman, who first founded Santa Monica Glass, and then Monterey Glass. In addition to employing numerous people over the years through these two businesses, Richard utilized his unique talent for glazing to create timeless and masterful glass work, which can be seen throughout the State of California.

Richard lived in Monterey, California with his partner of 25 years, Nina von Saltza Hare. Richard lived a full life. He often spoke of directing large cranes to install glass on jobs. In younger years he road his motorcycle, riding through Sepulveda Canyon and traveling through many states. However his biggest passion was fishing. Richard was an avid fisherman, always looking forward to his annual trip to Shasta and the many other lakes and rivers throughout the West Coast.

Richard was preceded in death by his brother’s and sister. He is survived by his beloved partner Nina, his children, Dawn Schneider and Jim Stevens, Nina’s children, Jessica Hare, Sabrina O’Neil, and Jackie Fugitt, his grandchildren Alexandria Schneider, Kenny Schneider, Gabriel Stevens, and Prescilla Stevens, and by his great-grandson Wyatt Shinkle.

I loved the pre-WW2 lifestyle.I left Gonzales in 1942 at the age of 15 to come to Monterey to work in the canneries. Shortly thereafter I met and married Phil Alvarado. We were married 61 years before his passing in 2003. With deep sorrow, Donn Louis Trenner, 79, of Monterey passed away at home on April 18 2026 , surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Carmel on May 20, 1947, Donn lived in Monterey most of his life. He attended Monterey Peninsula College earning two degrees. He was on the 1965 MPC football Lettuce Bowl champs. Donn was a man of honor and integrity. He served our country and also served our community. . Donn became a fireman for the City of Monterey for five years. He then took a fireman job with the Monterey Peninsula Airport District. Donn worked his way up to Fire Chief, Police Chief and assistant general Manager of the Airport. Donn also served 27 years on the board of directors of the Salinas Rule Fire district . Donn's passion was for public safety.

He loved being with his second family in Big Canyon Ranch in Nevada. Donn loved traveling from hunting trips in Nevada to New Zealand. He enjoyed many trail rides in New Mexico.

Mostly Donn enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones Donns most important accomplishment was raising his son Brian.. Sadly Brian passed away 8 years ago.

Donn is survived by his loving wife Stephanie who had shared 58 years together. He is also survived by his siblings Diane Ledger, Bonnie Snyder, Craig Trenner and also his cousins John Trenner and Pam Nelson.

Fred Leo Caudle, 82, passed away on May 22, 2026. Born on November 2, 1943, Fred lived a life marked by faith, service, and a deep appreciation for the people and passions that brought him joy. In his youth, Fred and his brothers loved sneaking fresh homemade tortillas and tamales from Mrs. Avila, which made his mom angry when he did not finish dinner. He also enjoyed hunting and camping at Dinky Creek. Fred had a lifelong passion for car racing which started by helping his father and brother work on cars, this morphed in a lifelong fascination with NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, which spoke to his spirited nature and enthusiasm for life. He served honorably in the Vietnam War and later achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, reflecting throughout his life the courage, dedication, and strength that defined his character. Fred came to know the Lord at the age of twelve, and in recent years he found special joy in attending church and Wednesday night Bible study at Shoreline Church. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Caudle, and Melvina (Gaines) Caudle; his brothers, Ross, and Casey Caudle; and his stepson, John Spangler-Caudle. He is survived by his sister, Judith Orth; his daughters, Corrinne Chitwood (Mark), Jennifer Jones (William), and Susannah Caudle; his grandchildren, Mark and Benjamin Chitwood, Rebekkah, Shannon, Andrew, Rachel, Naomi, Zachary, and Chelsea Jones, Jon Bump, Paul and Leo Bayer; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Erica Bump. Fred loved and cherished all those who took the time to engage with him. Fred will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends, and Fred will be missed dearly. A celebration of life and internment will be held on December 18Th 2026. The times will be announced later.

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Patricia “Patti” Lynn Gibler Tai on May 29, 2026, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Patti was born on March 29, 1957, at Monterey Hospital to Claude Ronald Gibler and Betty Lou Huff, owners of Grove Pharmacy, formerly located at Lighthouse Avenue and Forest Avenue in Pacific Grove. She graduated from Pacific Grove High School with the Class of 1975 before attending Fresno State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Credential.

Teaching was more than a career for Patti—it was her calling. For nearly 40 years, she served students and families throughout the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, spending much of her career at La Mesa Elementary School. She cared deeply for every student who entered her classroom and dedicated herself to helping them learn, grow, and believe in themselves. The countless lives she touched stand as a lasting testament to her life’s work.

Patti was a woman of strength and conviction. She believed deeply in treating others with kindness, fairness, and respect. She was generous with her support and encouragement and cared deeply for her family, friends, colleagues, and students.

Above all else, Patti was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Jeremy Tai; daughter, Megan Tai; grandson, Keahonuiokahoeuli Robley-Tai; sisters, Pam Gibler and Lisa Ganaja; brother, Brian Gibler; many nieces; and countless friends, former students, colleagues, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

Patti’s legacy lives on through the love she shared, the values she instilled, and the lives she touched as a mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, and mentor. Those who knew her will remember her spunky and mischievous spirit, compassionate heart, sharp wit, and will never forget how her boisterous laugh could brighten a room. She will be deeply missed.

Young Im Marshman, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on

Monday, May 11, 2026. She was born on September 9, 1932, in Kimcheon, South Korea. She was a

faithful and devoted parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church. She enjoyed growing fresh vegetables

and fruit trees in her backyard, often sharing baskets of tomatoes and peaches with neighbors who

would stop by to chat.
