Coastal Community Action Program Edition

“Coastal Community Action Program changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.”

With a mission like that above, we couldn’t be more proud that we have 7 Therapeutic Court Alumni working at CCAP and towards the greater good. Fun fact, last year we entered a direct contract with CCAP and our alumni are working directly with our program participants on housing, reentry needs and peer support. We love to see all of their success come full circle and appreciate all they do!

Alumni update Donovan T.—
2020 graduate

I have been very busy checking off goals! Most recently I graduated my carpenters apprenticeship! And I am now a journeyman carpenter! I look forward to seeing where this journey takes me! A huge shout out to Thera courts for helping me find a better way to live and all my peers that have helped me along that! It hasn’t been an easy road by any means! But through hard work and dedication I showed up on time every day! Ready to do whatever was asked of me! Knowing nothing about construction in the beginning means that I’ve had to do a lot of things I’ve never done before and there are still a lot of things that I will have to do that I’ve never done before! But I pay attention I listen and I try the best I can each and everyday! Showing up, being honest, and making an honest effort has gotten me along way in this career and opened a lot of door for me to learn a lot of things and gain a lot of experience! Now it’s back to the goal list time to cross of some old ones and set some new ones! e

Today, we were pleased to celebrate Cynthia's remarkable achievement of completing our Mental Health Court program! Perfectly aligning with Mental Health Awareness Month and National Therapeutic Court Month, we will call it a coincidence 🤝
Through her journey, Cyndi has fostered meaningful relationships within the community, made possible by her commitment to her higher education objectives at Grays Harbor College, her involvement in sober softball teams, her active engagement in the recovery community, and her efforts to mend family bonds strained by addiction/mental health struggles. We are profoundly proud of her accomplishments and look forward to her future endeavors! Congrats, grad 🎓🙌

Participant Update from Andrew G.—

Yesterday marked a significant milestone for me, as it has been one year since I participated in Therapeutic Courts, a journey that has enabled me to transform my life profoundly. This accomplishment is crucial to me because it has allowed me to develop meaningful relationships, achieve personal goals, and improve my mental, physical, and financial well-being. By celebrating this occasion through skydiving at 18,500 feet, I demonstrated to myself that I am no longer controlled by my addiction or outdated thought patterns. The experience was indescribable. I truly feel like a different person today, and this milestone serves as a testament to my growth and progress.

Therapeutic Court, thanks for giving me a life worth living!

Alumni Update—Roger S

Today, I have 3 years, 3 months, and 15 days clean.

Today, I have a beautiful baby girl that I get to love, support, and be present for every single day. I stay active in clean and sober activities, play clean and sober softball, and for the first time in my life, I got to travel out of the country.

For the past 3 years, I have worked as a caseworker, helping others find their own path in life by sharing my lived experience. That alone is something I never thought would be possible for me.

For the first time in my life, I have real friends — people I truly care about and who care about me. I get to be part of their lives, and they are part of mine.

I am taking major steps forward and getting ready to buy a home. Life is busy. Sometimes it is crazy, and sometimes it is just sitting at home enjoying a good TV show. But even my worst day today is better than my best day living on the streets.

Today, I am happy. I am content. I look forward to the challenges life brings and the lessons that come with them.

Success is the result of the process, and today I am fully in control of that process.

Thank you, Drug Court, for being such a major part of my journey and helping me become the man I am today.

Update from Alumni Jordan A.
We love continuing to watch you grow and are so proud of you!

Recovery’s been like floating a river.
It's always beautiful, and sometimes I’ve gotta paddle, sometimes I’ve gotta get out and walk a little bit…
and sometimes I’ve gotta stop controlling it and just float 🖤
I’m in peer support training currently as I write this update and blazing my own path through the Native Pathways Program at Evergreen State College (which was a goal on my plan in drug court) finding my voice and actually using it.

My sober date is June 12th, 2023..coming up on three years June 12th, 2026 still rebuilding with intention.
“Using my words and not my hands” was a silly joke with the judge, now it’s how I move. Steady. Accountable. Different.

It’s harvest season, and I’m working with good intention. Preparing devil’s club glycerites for strength, protection, and resilience, drying nettle for teas that build inner strength and keep the body strong,
learning to listen, harvest right, and make medicine in a good way.

I stay grounded in sweat lodge, keeping my spirit right, and this year I’m making medicine for canoe journey. Showing up for community the way I once needed someone to show up for me.
I’m not part of the program anymore.
I’m walking my own path now, with intention, with voice, and with purpose.
Siokwil,
Jordan 🤘🏽

Did you know that May is both Mental Health Awareness Month AND National Therapeutic Court Month?
It’s no coincidence these two happen at the same time. Therapeutic courts—like Mental Health and Drug Courts—are where the justice system meets behavioral healthcare. Instead of a "one-size-fits-all" approach to crime, these courts recognize that untreated mental health and substance use disorders are often the root cause of legal issues.
Why Therapeutic Courts matter:
✅ They Heal: Participants receive supervised treatment, therapy, and life-skills training.
✅ They Work: These programs are proven to reduce recidivism and keep families together.
✅ They Save: Rehabilitation is more cost-effective for taxpayers than long-term incarceration.

Stay tuned as this month we highlight our Grays Harbor County participants and Alumni who are doing the hard work to change their lives. Recovery isn't just a personal win; it’s a win for our entire community. 🤝

It’s been a busy week at Therapeutic Court. We started off the week visiting our State Capitol for Therapeutic Court Lobby Day to continue advocating for funding for the important work we do. We had an all participant Giveback, completing service work at the Moore Wright Group. Ended the week with the graduation of Josh from Drug Court and handing out our first “Outstanding Alumni” award to Walter!
