Amazing feat

🏔️ She left her Himalayan village at 13 with 30 pounds on her back to earn $20 for a bus ticket to Kathmandu. On October 9, 2024, she stood on the summit of her 14th mountain above 8,000 meters.

Dawa Yangzum Sherpa is now the first Nepali woman to climb all 14 of the world's highest peaks. At 33 years old. From a village at 4,200 meters. Without a blueprint. Without shortcuts.

Here is what makes her story even more remarkable.

She began climbing professionally in 2009. Summited Everest at 21. In 2014, she was part of the first all-female Nepali team to conquer K2, the most dangerous mountain on Earth. By 2017, she had become the first Asian woman to earn the IFMGA certification, the highest qualification a mountain guide can hold anywhere in the world. Only around 100 women globally have it.

The North Face signed her as a professional athlete. Rolex made her their first Nepali ambassador. National Geographic trusted her to lead scientific research expeditions on Everest three times.

And still, she says the 14 peaks are not the point. The point is the doors she is opening for the next generation of Nepali women who dare to look up.

She is only the second woman in history to complete this feat after Spain's Edurne Pasaban in 2010.

Nepal 🇳🇵 has a new hero. And she has been one all along.

Sound advise for all outdoor programs.

In Search and Rescue, success isn’t just about skill — it’s about how we organize, communicate, and support each other when every minute matters. Within SAR teams, two roles show up on every mission: leaders and managers. They’re different and absolutely essential.

Managers keep the mission moving. They’re the ones making sure the right people, tools, and information are in the right place at the right time.

Leaders inspire action. They’re the ones who help others push through fatigue, uncertainty, and tough terrain. Every member has the potential to lead, regardless of role or rank.

In SAR, many switch between these roles without even realizing it. Sometimes you’re the one coordinating. Other times you’re the one inspiring. Both matter. Both make a difference.
