Celebrating 39 Years of Dedicated Service — Jackie Cockrell
On Wednesday, August 26, we had the honor of celebrating the retirement of Jackie Cockrell from Bryce Hospital after an incredible 39 years of dedicated service with the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
As Director of the Social Work Program at Bryce Hospital, Jackie’s work extended far beyond a title or position. Throughout her career, she demonstrated the true heart of social work—advocating for patients, supporting families, providing guidance during difficult circumstances, and ensuring that those entrusted to our care were treated with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Jackie was also a tremendous source of support for her staff. She led with experience, wisdom, compassion, and a genuine desire to see others succeed. Her commitment helped strengthen the Social Work Program and contributed greatly to the quality of care provided to the patients of Bryce Hospital.
After 39 years of service, Jackie leaves behind a remarkable legacy—one reflected in the countless patients, families, coworkers, and professionals whose lives she has touched.
Congratulations, Jackie, on your well-deserved retirement! Thank you for nearly four decades of service, leadership, advocacy, and compassion. Your presence at Bryce Hospital will truly be missed, but the impact of your work will continue for many years to come.
