Margaret Ellen Embry, 99, of Heritage Pointe of Warren, and formerly of Grant County, Indiana, passed away peacefully at 2:15 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Ellen was born on November 20, 1926, to Wilmont and Marie Haines. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1945 and went on to live a long and beautiful life centered around family, hard work, faith, and the people she loved.

Following high school, Ellen worked at Butler Music Store in downtown Marion. On August 8, 1948, she married the love of her life, George C. Embry, and together they built a life filled with family and many treasured memories. Ellen and George farmed for many years in the Amboy area before eventually moving to the family farm in eastern Grant County. Their marriage spanned more than 52 years before George preceded her in death in 2001.

In addition to the many years she spent alongside George on the farm and caring for their family, Ellen later worked in the administrative office of Mississinewa Community Schools. She was a woman of faith and a member of First Friends Church in Marion.

Above all else, Ellen’s greatest legacy was her family. She had the special blessing of watching that family grow through several generations, and at 99 years old, her life touched not only her children and grandchildren, but also her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The love, memories, and traditions she leaves behind will continue through each of them.

Ellen is survived by her children, Mike (Patty) Embry, Linda Bragg, Ed (Linda) Embry, and Betty Ann Jones; brother, George (Jane) Haines; and grandchildren, Mike (Nikki) Embry, Lori (Jeff) Hardesty, Joe (Marlene) Embry, Dede (Sean) Flaherty, Todd (Holly Eldredge) Bragg, Scott (Andrea) Embry, Julie (Todd) Smith, Brian (Amy) Meekin, Brad (Jamie) Meekin, and Stephanie (Ryan) Wolf. She is also lovingly remembered by 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmont and Marie Haines; beloved husband, George C. Embry; son-in-law, Tony Bragg; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Haines, Robert and Lucille Embry, Richard Embry, Paul and Patricia Embry, and Mary Embry.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Ellen’s remarkable life on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Applegate Chapel at Heritage Pointe, 801 Huntington Avenue, Warren, Indiana. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Chaplain Ginny Soultz officiating.

Ellen will be laid to rest beside loved ones at Marion IOOF Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s memory to the Heritage Pointe Sewing Department or the Heritage Pointe Chapel.

Larry E. Taylor, 86, of Poneto, IN, Liberty Township, passed away at 1:45 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Bluffton, IN. He was born on Saturday, December 16, 1939, in Pennville, IN.

Larry was a graduate of Poling High School. Throughout his working years, he worked as a truck driver and dump truck driver, as well as a mechanic. He also drove for the Amish and worked as a farm hand at Taylor Family Farms. Larry enjoyed staying busy and could often be found piddling around or working on lawn mowers.

Larry will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for the time they shared together.

Brian Keith Conwell, 55, of Van Buren, Indiana, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, following a tragic accident in Syracuse, IN.

Brian was born on March 1, 1971, in Marion, Indiana, the beloved son of Boyd K. and Donna (Nussbaum) Conwell. He was a 1989 graduate of Huntington North High School and went on to graduate from Huntington University in 1993.

On August 7, 2017, Brian married the love of his life, Dawn Cooper. Together, Brian and Dawn built a life filled with wonderful memories, dividing their time among their homes in Port Charlotte, Florida, Syracuse, Indiana, and the place that was always closest to Brian’s heart, the family farm in rural Van Buren.

Farming was far more than Brian’s occupation; it was a way of life, a family legacy, and an important part of who he was. A fifth-generation farmer, Brian was deeply proud to carry on the work of the generations who came before him. The farm was where he felt most at home. He loved the land, the changing seasons, the long days, and the satisfaction that came from a hard day’s work. Whether preparing the ground, watching a crop grow, bringing in the harvest, or simply climbing behind the wheel of a John Deere, Brian was happiest on the farm.

His connection to agriculture ran deep, and he wanted to be remembered, above all, as a farmer.

Away from the fields, Brian embraced life with that same enthusiasm.

Brian was an avid business owner in Marion, IN. As a kid, he milked cows on his family farm, and as an adult he owned and operated Ashley’s Ice Cream Café; he felt that was a full-circle moment. There was nothing Brian couldn’t fix. He took his skills and expertise and started a business with his wife called Dream More Properties because they believe everyone should Dream More! He became an Airbnb owner, and it suited him so well. He found joy in being a servant leader. Alongside his wife, he owned and operated Dawn’s Cleaning Solutions—oh, the adventures they had and the memories they held dear. He previously served on the SOS Board in Marion, IN.

He enjoyed traveling with Dawn and his family, discovering new restaurants, cooking, and spending time at Lake Wawasee, IN, with friends and family. He and Dawn treasured the many places and experiences they shared together, but no matter where life took him, there was simply no place quite like home with his wife and children.

Brian was a Master Home Chef and competed in the “Leaders That Cook” every year, winning many cooking/charitable fundraising awards.

Brian leaves behind his loving wife, Dawn Cooper Conwell of Van Buren; his mother, Donna Nussbaum Conwell of Van Buren; his children, Nekiia Conwell (fiancé Daniel Lloret), Bergon Conwell, Meagan (Jeremy) Davis, and Brayden Conwell; 5 grandchildren, his mother-in-law, “Dee” Cooper of Marion; his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Kelly and Jason Jones of Marion; his sister-in-law, Bethany Cooper of Fort Myers, FL; his brother-in-law, Pastor Brian Cooper and his dogs, Addie & Bebe who went everywhere with him..

He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Conwell, and his father-in-law, George Cooper.

He was a member of Warren First Baptist Church and attended The Villas Church in Fort Myers, FL. Brian’s favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.

In keeping with Brian’s lifelong connection to agriculture and his desire to encourage future generations, preferred memorials may be made to the Huntington County 4-H Fair Association, 1340 S. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750, in care of the show barn where Brian and his children showed their 4-H animals. John Harmon Ickes, 84, a lifetime resident of Montpelier, IN, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Marion Health East in Gas City, IN. He was born on Friday, January 30, 1942, in Montpelier, IN, to Kenneth and Wilma Dean (Crockett) Ickes. John graduated from Montpelier High School.

John worked for Kroger in Montpelier and Indiana Michigan Electric Company for many years before retiring in 1995. He formerly a deacon of Grace Baptist Church. John wintered in Inverness, FL, for 20 years. He enjoyed attending auctions, shooting, and tractor pulls.

Survivors include three sons, John H. Ickes II (Heather) of Chicago, IL, Chad M. Ickes (Thi) of Montpelier, IN, and Benjamin T. Ickes (Jeannen) of Clarksville, TN; one granddaughter, Justine Ickes (Jase Small) of Montpelier, IN; two grandsons, Cameron Ickes (Tara) of Montpelier, IN, and Chad Ickes II of Garrett, IN; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Hope Ickes of Montpelier, IN; two sisters, Nelva Forrester Rogers of Hartford, IN, and Kay Kershner of North Carolina; He will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Wilma Dean Ickes, and his sister, Sue Felton.

James R. Galloway, 72, of Geneva, Indiana, passed away at 4:21 AM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at River Terrace Estates in Bluffton, Indiana. He was born on Friday, November 13, 1953, in Portland, Indiana.

Jim married Corie I. (Smith) Galloway on Tuesday, September 25, 1973, in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Jim attended South Adams High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 14 years, including 10 years of active duty. He was also a member of the National Guard in Bluffton and the Reserve Center in Fort Wayne for 14 years. Jim was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. In his early years Jim ran the car show in Hartford City and also the Geneva Days. He enjoyed camping, most recently at Paradise Point, traveling, and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Jack.

Throughout his life, Jim held several different occupations. He worked at Nu Door in Geneva and also worked for Thunderbird in Decatur, CTS in Berne, and Red Gold in Geneva. Jim was employed in construction and, while living in Kissimmee, Florida, for three years, he drove a limousine.

Jim is survived by his sons, Jesse L. (Sukie) Galloway of Oak Grove, Kentucky, and James M. (Erin) Galloway of Decatur, Indiana; his daughter, Melissa (Thomas Jr.) Peek of Eaton, Indiana; ten grandchildren; Thomas (Whitney) Peek, Alexander Peek, Sarah Peek, Mason Peek, Jeremi Galloway, Alek Galloway, Jesselene (Nick) Shawhan, Maysee Galloway, Biena Galloway, and Kensie Galloway; and his brothers, Larry L. Galloway and Russell R. Galloway, both of Geneva, Indiana; and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence James Galloway; his mother, Beulah F. (Glassburn) Galloway; and his wife, Corie Ida (Smith) Galloway.

Jacquelyn “Jackie” Hoch Duggan, 70, a lifelong Grant County resident who made Upland, Indiana, her home for most of her life, passed away on August 29, 2026, in Carmel, Indiana, with her daughter, sister, and niece by her side. She was born October 5, 1955, in Marion, Indiana, to Charles and Bonita (Duncan) Hoch.

Raised as a farmer’s daughter, Jackie learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and determination at an early age. She graduated from Eastbrook High School as valedictorian and from Ball State University magna cm laude, later becoming a Certified Public Accountant in 1983.

Jackie began working at Avis Industrial Corporation while still in high school and joined the company full time in 1977. She spent the majority of her more than three-decade career there as Executive Vice President and CFO. In 2012, she joined Lift-A-Loft as CFO. Throughout her career, Jackie held numerous Director and Officer positions with company subsidiaries and was respected for her intelligence, financial expertise, leadership, and extraordinary work ethic.

Jackie generously shared those talents with her community, serving on countless boards of directors, frequently as Treasurer. Her service included many years with the Upland Youth Baseball and Softball League.

A lifelong member of Van Buren United Methodist Church, now known as Church of the Vine, Jackie began playing the church pipe organ at just 14 years old and continued for the remainder of her life. For nearly 57 years, her music was part of the worship and memories of generations within her church family. She also spent decades serving as choir director.

Jackie was an avid gardener, surrounding her home with hundreds of perennials and potted annuals. And, as Jackie would undoubtedly want clarified, she grew flowers—not vegetables. Her favorite was the Stargazer lily.

For all Jackie accomplished professionally and gave to her church and community, her family remained at the center of her life. Her daughter, Shannon, was a constant source of pride, and Jackie simply did not miss her softball games. Even when traveling out of state for work, she would return home for a game and then travel back to wherever work required her to be. When Shannon represented the United States playing softball in Sweden, Jackie was there, too. As Shannon grew older, their relationship grew with them, and Jackie became not only her mother and greatest supporter, but also her best friend.

Jackie adored her grandchildren, Tate, Quinn, and Lila. She loved attending their soccer games, traveling with the family, and hosting family holidays year after year, creating traditions and memories her family will carry forward. Jackie never did celebrations halfway—Easter egg hunts were elaborate enough to require a spreadsheet, Christmas was always an event, and she found great joy in creating experiences that brought her family together and gave everyone something to look forward to year after year.

Jackie was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and fought the disease for more than twelve years. She refused to allow cancer to dictate how she lived, continuing to work full time and live an active, engaged life throughout her illness.

Cancer was something Jackie had. It was never who Jackie was. Even as the disease gained ground in her final months, she remained fiercely determined, fighting for her independence, for more time with those she loved, and for her life until her final day.

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Chris) Duggan; her beloved grandchildren, Tate, Quinn, and Lila; her sister, Paula (Warren) Brose; her brother, Randy Hoch; her nieces Brittany Brose and Natalie Hoch; her nephew Lance (Gabbi) Hoch; her great-nephew Crue; her great-niece Isla; and many friends, colleagues, church family, and community members whose lives were touched by hers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bonita (Duncan) Hoch, who both passed away in 2013.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Van Buren Church of the Vine Fellowship Hall in Van Buren, Indiana.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Van Buren Church of the Vine, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. In accordance with Jackie’s wishes, cremation will follow.

Music was a significant part of Jackie’s life, especially Christian music. She attended countless Christian concerts and, for the past 20 years, made the annual Gaither Family Fest in Gatlinburg a tradition, in addition to enjoying several Gaither cruises. In keeping with Jackie’s lifelong love of music, those wishing to honor her memory through music are encouraged to make a contribution to a university music program of their choice. Ball State University, Jackie’s alma mater, and Indiana University are two meaningful options with connections to Jackie and her family.

Memorial contributions may also be made to Van Buren Church of the Vine, where Jackie’s lifelong faith and love of music were so deeply rooted.

Jackie worked hard, served generously, loved loyally, and fought courageously. Through the life she lived, she taught those closest to her the value of independence, determination, and simply being there for the people you love.

And through it all, she showed up.

Jerry W. Emerson, 74, of rural Hartford City, Indiana, passed away at 10:06 PM on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on Wednesday, August 13, 1952, in Camp Polk DERIDDER, LA. to Clifton Emerson and Mary Francis (Parsons) Emerson.

Jerry married Kimberley (Fishero) Emerson on Friday, May 29, 1992, at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Jerry received his bachelor's degree in social work from Ball State University. He was a member of Hartford City Wesleyan Church. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he served as a firefighter and as a Military Training Instructor (MTI) at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.

Jerry enjoyed reading books by James Patterson, playing games on his phone, attending church functions, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Kimberley (Fishero) Emerson of Hartford City, Indiana; his son, Jeremy Emerson of Hartford City, Indiana; two daughters, Cassandra Emerson and Tara Michelle (Clint) Musick of Athens, Texas; several grandchildren; his sister, Teresa Gammon of Danville, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Emerson, and his mother, Mary Frances (Parsons) Emerson.

Kyann Nicole Coffman, 33, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Kyann was born on November 20, 1992, in Muncie, Indiana. She attended Blackford County Schools.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Kyann Coffman, who passed away on August 28, 2026. Kyann lived with joy and a smile that could light up any room. Those who knew Kyann instantly fell in love with her. Despite her challenges of living with cerebral palsy, Kyann lived with a fighting spirit right up to the very end.

Kyann was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Sandra Apple. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Kyann is going home to be with her grandma.

Darrell L. Overmyer, 75, a lifetime resident of Montpelier, IN, passed away at 10:18 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center in Bluffton, IN. He was born on Sunday, September 10, 1950, in Hartford City, IN.

Darrell attended Montpelier High School. He worked for Franklin Electric in Bluffton for 25 years before retiring from Veneer in Montpelier. Darrell was an avid coin collector and especially enjoyed sharing his collection with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Above all, Darrell cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his son, Darrell Ray (Stephanie Borror) Overmyer of Montpelier, IN; daughters, Michelle K. (Denny) Penrod and Penny L. Cavanaugh, both of Montpelier, IN; grandchildren, Corey (Kala) Overmyer of Roll, IN; Kasey (Kurtis) Rinker of Montpelier, IN; Kent Overmyer of Huntington, IN; Sierra Cavanaugh of Montpelier, IN; Dylan Overmyer of Poneto, IN; Cameron Penrod of Montpelier, IN; Yuriah Overmyer of Hartford City, IN; Cassandra Penrod of Montpelier, IN; and Tatum Borror of Montpelier, IN; and several great-grandchildren.

Darrell was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Michael; mother, Pauline Leffingwell; stepfather, Frank Leffingwell; and brother, Larry Chadwick.

William L. “Bill” Boxell, 88, of Warren, Indiana, passed away at 2:54 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Parkview Huntington Hospital in Huntington, Indiana.

Born on Monday, January 17, 1938, in Warren, he was the son of the late Johnathan “Earl” and Johnina (Long) Boxell. He graduated from Warren High School and went on to a long and steady career with Anaconda Wire and Cable in Marion, Indiana, where he worked for 48 years.On Saturday, April 28, 1956, he married Bonnie (Buckland) Boxell, who preceded him in death. Together they built a life rooted in family and community.

Bill found great enjoyment in sports. He was a devoted follower of Indiana University athletics, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Indiana Pacers, and he kept a close eye on high school basketball throughout the years.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Sherri) Boxell of Indianapolis; his daughter, Cynthia Samples of Centerville; his sister, Deanna Johnston of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery A. Boxell, and his sister, Mona Wilson.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in rural Marion with Chaplain Gerald Moreland officiating.
