You may be hearing about hantavirus in the news or on social media, so we wanted to share a quick, reassuring overview.

The short version: this is very rare, and the risk to most families is extremely low. Hantavirus is a virus that can be found in certain wild rodents. People can only get sick if they inhale particles from contaminated rodent droppings, urine, or nesting materials.

Unlike viruses like flu or COVID, hantavirus does not spread easily between people, and most families will never encounter a situation where there is any risk.

For our community, hantavirus is not something we are worried about day-to-day. Routine pediatric concerns (like flu, RSV, and routine vaccines) remain far more relevant to your children’s health.

If you ever have questions or concerns, we’re always here to talk them through.

The weather is warming up, so why are there still so many kids with runny noses?!

Spring = lingering viruses + allergies, and it’s hard this time of year to tell them apart. If your child is running a fever, it’s likely a cold or a virus. On the flip side, if they have itchy eyes and sneezing, it’s more likely to be seasonal allergies.

When should you keep your child home from school? If they are running a fever, vomiting or have super low energy, it’s best for them to stay put. But if they just have a mild runny nose, it’s usually OK for them to stick with their usual schedule.

If your child has a fever for 3 days or more, trouble breathing, or shows signs of dehydration, give our office a call.

🌿 Tick season is here! Warmer days mean more outdoor fun…and unfortunately, more ticks.

While most bites are harmless, some can spread illnesses like Lyme disease—so a little prevention goes a long way!

How to protect your kids:
• Light-colored clothing = easier tick checks
• Use child-safe insect repellent
• Avoid tall grass + stay on trails
• Tuck pants into socks for extra protection
• Do a full-body tick check after playing outside
• Shower soon after coming indoors
• Check pets, backpacks, and clothes too

⚠️ Call us if you notice:
• Bullseye-shaped rash
• Fever, fatigue, or joint pain after a bite
