A post-conference prayer:

“Heavenly Father,

We come before You with grateful hearts, thanking You for the wonderful opportunity You gave Mama Bear Care to participate in The White Rose Resistance’s “The Last Stand” conference as a sponsor.

Thank You for every conversation, every handshake, every story shared, and every person who stopped by our booth. Thank You for the many attendees who took time to learn about the precious babies and families we serve. Thank You for the 70 individuals who joined our newsletter list and for the local Colorado families and supporters who received invitations to our upcoming fundraising banquet.

Lord, we recognize that none of this was accomplished by our own strength. Every open door, every meaningful connection, and every opportunity to share our mission came from Your gracious hand.

We thank You for the privilege of speaking with leaders, advocates, ministry partners, and so many people who value the dignity of every human life. We pray that the seeds planted during this conference would bear much fruit in the days ahead.

Father, we ask that You would continue to work in the hearts of those we met. Help them to see the beauty and importance of the ministry of Mama Bear Care. Give them a burden for the families facing life-limiting prenatal diagnoses and a desire to come alongside them with compassion and support.

If it be Your will, raise up faithful monthly partners who will not only give financially but who will become deeply invested in this mission. Bring us men and women who will stand with us for years to come, helping ensure that no Mama Bear walks this journey alone.

Bless every family represented by the names on our sign-up list. Draw them closer to Yourself. Guide them, encourage them, and help them to see how they might use their gifts, resources, prayers, and influence for Your glory.

We thank You for allowing us to be part of the work You are already doing. May every care package sent, every mother encouraged, every baby honored, and every life touched point back to Christ.

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.”

What happens when ten grieving mothers gather in one place with other women who truly understand?

Tears.
Laughter.
Stories.
Remembrance.
Friendship.
Healing.

Earlier this year, Mama Bear Care hosted our first-ever retreat for mothers whose babies received life-limiting prenatal diagnoses and have since gone on to Heaven.

We're honored that this film is being shared this weekend at The Last Stand Conference, hosted by our friends at White Rose Resistance, telling the story of a weekend that reminded us of something profoundly important: healing happens in community, and no mother should have to carry this journey alone.

As you watch, we hope you'll see not only the pain these families have endured, but also the beauty, courage, faith, and love that continue to shine through their stories.

This retreat was made possible through the generosity of people who believe that every baby matters and every family deserves compassionate support, both during their baby's life and after their loss. We are especially grateful to White Rose Resistance, whose 2025 Giving Tuesday campaign helped make this retreat a reality.

Thank you for helping us make moments like these possible.

Because every baby matters.
Every family matters.
And no Mama Bear should walk this journey alone.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (ESV)

💜 We’re Here!

Mama Bear Care is honored to be at The White Rose Resistance’s The Last Stand Conference this weekend, sharing our mission of providing fierce love and tender care to families facing life-limiting prenatal diagnoses.

Today we’ve had the privilege of meeting attendees, sharing the stories of some very special babies, introducing our care packages and resources, and inviting people to remember precious little lives on our Memory Bear Wall.

Every conversation reminds us why this ministry exists.

Behind every diagnosis is a baby.
Behind every baby is a family.
And behind every family is a story that matters.

We’re so grateful to our friends at The White Rose Resistance for their faithful support of Mama Bear Care, including helping make our very first retreat for grieving mothers possible earlier this year.

If you’re attending the conference, stop by and say hello! We’d love to meet you. 💜

Meet Kathryn Kerr; Mama Bear to Indiana

When families receive a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis, they often find themselves navigating overwhelming medical decisions, NICU stays, fear, grief, and uncertainty.

Kathryn understands that journey from both sides of the bedside.

As a longtime NICU nurse and Trisomy 18 mama, she brings a unique combination of professional expertise and personal experience to the families she serves through Mama Bear Care.

This is Indiana's story and the story of how one little girl's life continues to impact families across the country today.
———

"When I found out I was pregnant at 42 years old, I was surprised to say the least. Deep down, I had a nagging feeling that something might be wrong.

Because of my age, I agreed to NIPT testing. I hadn't done genetic testing with previous pregnancies because I knew it wouldn't change anything for me, but I thought it would be helpful to have information.
A few days later, I received the call that changed everything.
The results showed my baby had a high risk of Trisomy 18.

As a NICU nurse, I knew exactly what that diagnosis meant. I also knew the pressure many families face after receiving it.
An amniocentesis later confirmed that my daughter had Trisomy 18.

When the genetics department called with the results, the first question I was asked was, "When do you want to have your abortion?"

There was no discussion about carrying my baby. No conversation about parenting her. Just assumptions and discouragement.
I said no.

The next physician I met with told me my baby would simply be wrapped in a blanket and die a painful death. He even suggested I was wasting resources.

That was the day I found a new care team.

I transferred my care to a hospital in Philadelphia where we were surrounded by physicians, nurses, and counselors who supported us and respected our decisions. At 29 weeks, we relocated to the Ronald McDonald House to be closer to the hospital.

On March 4, 2021, I delivered my beautiful daughter, Indiana Ilene, at 36 weeks and 2 days.
She weighed 3 pounds, 9 ounces and was absolutely full of personality. Indiana was curious, spunky, and wonderfully sassy.
She spent more than six weeks in the NICU before unexpectedly passing away on April 16, 2021.

Every moment with her was a gift.
And if I had the choice to do it all over again, I would make the exact same decision.
The joy her life brought was worth every challenge.

Indiana was not my first NICU baby. My oldest son, Elliott, spent nearly three months in the NICU and came home with complex medical needs. My daughter Olivia also spent several weeks in the NICU. Years of caring for my own children, combined with my experience as a NICU nurse, gave me a unique perspective on the challenges families face.

During my pregnancy with Indiana, I was supported by Beverly and Mama Bear Care as one of the original moms in the group.
After Indiana went home to Jesus, I stayed involved.

Today, I serve as Mama Bear Care's NICU Nurse Parent Care Coordinator. I help families navigate difficult diagnoses, connect with supportive medical teams, prepare for delivery, and advocate for the care they desire for their baby.

I walk alongside families through pregnancy, NICU stays, celebrations, setbacks, and, when necessary, the heartbreak of saying goodbye.

It is an incredible honor to support families during some of the most sacred moments of their lives.
Because of Indiana, I have the privilege of helping ensure that no family has to walk this road alone."

💜 Full Circle.

Earlier this year, the White Rose Resistance selected Mama Bear Care as the recipient of their 2025 Giving Tuesday Campaign.

Because of their generosity, our first-ever Mama Bear Retreat became a reality. A sacred weekend where grieving mothers gathered to remember their babies, share their stories, encourage one another, and find hope in Christ.

Now, we are honored to be participating in the upcoming Last Stand Conference as a sponsor and exhibitor, with the opportunity to share the mission of Mama Bear Care with hundreds of conference attendees.

Would you pray with us?

Pray that God would open doors for meaningful conversations, connect us with people who share a heart for families facing difficult prenatal diagnoses and infant loss, and raise up the support needed to continue expanding the ways we provide fierce love and tender care to our mamas and their precious babies.

We are so grateful for partners like The White Rose Resistance who make this work possible. 💜

Meet Allen & Patricia Cooke
💗
When families receive a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis, they often find themselves overwhelmed by fear, grief, uncertainty, and unanswered questions.

Allen and Patricia understand that journey personally. Before joining Mama Bear Care, they walked alongside their own family as grandparents to their precious granddaughter, Jewel, who was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 before birth.
💗
Today, they serve Mama Bear Care families through Christian counseling, prayer support, and compassionate guidance rooted in both professional training and personal experience.

As certified AACC counselors and founders of Paraclete Counseling Services, they have helped many families navigate prenatal diagnoses, NICU journeys, infant loss, and the difficult emotions that often accompany these experiences.
💗
And because of the generosity of our monthly supporters, these counseling services are available to our Mama Bears completely FREE of charge.

Dear mama, if you are struggling, please know that you do not have to walk this road alone. Message us today to learn more about the free counseling services offered through Mama Bear Care.

Diagnosis Story: Elisa, Mama Bear to Peter

“When I got the call about our NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test) results, I was standing in a quilt shop browsing fabric. After four boys and one girl, I was so excited to finally find out if this baby was another boy or a girl. I remember pressing my midwife to just tell me quickly… but instead, she grew quiet.

She told me it was ‘not all good news’ and said she needed to speak with both my husband and me together that evening. That night, she told us our baby most likely had Trisomy 18 and that babies like him were ‘not expected to live.’
She also specifically told me not to Google the diagnosis.
Of course… that was the very first thing I did.

Soon we were referred to Maternal Fetal Medicine. After experiencing three miscarriages before this pregnancy, I was clinging tightly to hope because I had made it farther with this baby than I had with the others.

But many of the specialists painted an overwhelmingly hopeless picture. We were repeatedly encouraged to prepare for death instead of being offered support to fight for our son’s life. We were told the ‘kindest’ option would be to induce early, hold him, and let him pass away in our arms.
But we could not accept that.

After several appointments, we finally found doctors willing to care for our son and offer him the same medical consideration any other baby would receive. That was all we wanted… for our differently chromosomed baby to be treated like a baby worthy of care.
We fought for him.
And because we did, we were given so many beautiful moments with him.

Peter underwent interventions to repair his heart and support his lungs. He faced pulmonary hypertension and many medical challenges, but he also experienced love, joy, cuddles, smiles, and life surrounded by his family.

Peter lived for one year and two weeks before going to Heaven.
And I would do it all over again.

I am so thankful I did not let fear or pressure convince me to simply let my baby die early. Because of the care he received, we were able to truly know him, love him, and experience the beauty of his life.

And his life was beautiful.”

A message from our Founder/CEO, Beverly Jacobson:

In early April I experienced one of the biggest blessings so far of leading this ministry: welcoming and serving 10 Mama Bears as we remembered their little ones in heaven during an incredible retreat experience.

Two weeks later I was in a severe car accident, totaling my husband's new Subaru as I drove 2 of our children to an appointment.

The accident came just days after learning that our youngest daughter, Verity, needs double hip surgery ASAP plus corrective spinal surgery because of her worsening scoliosis, which is jeopardizing her lung capacity and potentially threatening her life. (She also battled a respiratory virus in mid-May, which turned into pneumonia, reminding us of the gravity of her situation.)

I don't know where I'd be emotionally if it weren't for the hope of Jesus! It's been rough around here...but I can honestly say I have seen the goodness of God in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13).

More than ever, I'm thinking about legacy these days. From the beginning, I've prayed God would help us build this ministry on such a solid foundation that it will long outlast my lifetime. And--having come face to face with the sobering reality that my lifetime COULD have ended after 51 years in a fatal accident--I'm praying more than ever about the specific next steps I/we should be taking so that the work of Mama Bear Care can and will continue after the Lord calls me home.

Praise God--in the days and even weeks following the accident, when I was forced to take care of myself and my family, the work of the ministry continued! We are building a team, small but solid and amazingly passionate about this work God has given us. Newly diagnosed moms were welcomed; care packages were sent; birth plans were developed; NICU and bereaved moms alike were supported with fierce love and tender care. I am so grateful for (and proud of!) the Mama Bear Care Team and how they are growing in unity with one another and in the gifts God has given them to serve others.

Having a team to lean on is giving me peace of mind about another major pivot I'm dealing with personally. The White Rose Resistance's conference, The Last Stand, is happening in Denver June 5-6, the very date Verity will be in the hospital undergoing her double hip surgery and beginning her weeks-long recovery. While I'm sad to miss being there myself to talk about Mama Bear Care (I truly do love in-person events!), I am confident that my team will do an amazing job at our table. (If you will be there, please go by our booth and say hi to Jill and Lori!)

We still have a long way to go (grow), and we want everyone to be a part of this special mission! If you haven't joined the Mama Bear Movement as a monthly partner, would you prayerfully consider clicking that button below and jumping on board with us? Truly, any level of support that works with your budget would help us so much! Hiring part-time staff is the next step to deepening the level of care for our Mama Bears, but we can't do that without increasing our consistent monthly donations.

And if you're part of the Mama Bear Movement already (thank you!), would you share our mission with one person this week who might have a heart for the work we're doing?

As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for this ministry. Each baby we welcome and each baby we grieve leaves a mark on all of us, and we know their stories are changing hearts and minds all over the world.

With fierce love & tender care,

Beverly Jacobson
