Is your back-to-school checklist complete? ๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ

Between shopping for supplies, preparing lunches, and getting back into a routine, it's easy to overlook a few important health-related tasks before the first day of school.

As you prepare for a successful school year, don't forget to:
โœ” Schedule school or sports physicals early
โœ” Review immunization records and required health forms
โœ” Update any medication or action plans needed for school
โœ” Pack a simple health kit for your child's backpack

School physicals are a great opportunity to review your child's overall health, discuss nutrition and physical activity, address concerns such as allergies or asthma, and help ensure they're ready for the classroom, the field, or the stage.

AFC is here to help with convenient walk-in care, school physicals, sports physicals, and more to help your child start the school year healthy, confident, and ready to learn.

Summer cookouts, pool parties, picnics, and backyard BBQs are some of the best parts of the season, but food that's left out too long can quickly turn a fun gathering into an unpleasant experience. ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒญ

Foodborne illnesses can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, often appearing hours or even days after eating contaminated food.

A few simple precautions can help keep your summer celebrations safe:
Keep cold foods cold and hot foods hot
Refrigerate leftovers promptly
Wash hands before handling food
Avoid cross-contamination when preparing meals

If you or a family member experiences symptoms of food poisoning this summer, AFC is here to help with convenient walk-in care.

Health officials in North Carolina have reported more than 300 cases of cyclosporiasis this summer, with additional cases under investigation nationwide. Cyclosporiasis is a foodborne illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora, which is often associated with contaminated fresh produce. ๐Ÿฅ—

One of the challenges with Cyclospora is that symptoms often don't appear until about one week after exposure, making it difficult to connect your illness to something you ate days earlier.

If you're experiencing ongoing gastrointestinal symptoms, AFC is here to help. Our providers can evaluate your symptoms and, when appropriate, order a send-out stool test to help diagnose Cyclospora.

If confirmed, cyclosporiasis is typically treated with prescription antibiotics, helping most patients recover more quickly.

Don't ignore symptoms that won't go away. Walk into AFC for convenient care and get back to feeling your best.
