“Many of us today are relying desperately on authorities to make our choices and to solve our problems, without even knowing it. The authority may be another human being, a role model, a doctor, or a spiritual guru…or it may be an internal concept, philosophy or book that tells us what to think or do. We are guided by these authorities to tell us to ‘trust nature,’ or ‘trust the science,’ but when we are faced with the question ‘what should I do,’ we are bound to think and depend on these internal and external authorities for the answer, without seeing another way. And in that state, our hopes may slowly dissolve in a prolonged sense of waiting…often with an element of perpetual desperation.

‘The Conscious Choice,’ that call for something greater, represents a shift. It brings us from the question, what ‘should’ I do (where our thinking revolves around those who ‘know best’) to the far more relevant and inspiring question: what can ‘I do’ in this moment, for myself, my family, my community.” – John Ohm

Conscious parenting and conscious living are less about finding the “right” answer and more about cultivating presence, self-trust, and the ability to respond intentionally rather than react from fear or dependence on outside authority.

“The scene: I was working diligently at the computer in my home office when my 2.5-year-old daughter, Willow, approached my desk and grabbed a pile of 4×6-inch photos that I had carelessly left within her reach. These pictures of our older daughter and a friend had been sent to us by the friend’s mother, and replacing the pictures would have been inconvenient if not impossible.

Given Willow’s developmental stage—where ‘looking’ at the pictures might include folding, ripping, and coloring them—I reacted from fear and stood up from my desk to rescue the photos from the wild-child!

Sensing that I was about to thwart her will, she quickly toddled to the other side of the house. When I caught up to her, she realized she was cornered, and she half-cowered against the wall. She looked as if she half-believed that her will alone would stop me from using my superior size and strength to remove the photos from her possession.” – Scott Noelle

Sometimes the most powerful parenting moments happen when we pause our instinct to control, soften into connection, and truly see the child beneath the behavior. When children feel safe, seen, and respected instead of overpowered, moments of resistance can transform into opportunities for trust, emotional regulation, and deeper connection.

“Here’s the thing: By letting go of everything, before my feet even touched the ground, I suddenly had the energy and desire to take inspired action, but without the urgency, stress or strain that previously engulfed me. By telling myself, ‘I don’t have to do anything today,’ I became at choice with my days—with my life. I realized that despite how things might seem, I always had the choice to do, or to not do. My life was the way it was because it was my choice…and at any moment, I could make a different one.” – Nanice Ellis

“Some moment it will dawn on you: You’re free, and always have been. Radically free. You’ll realize you never needed to try so hard. You’ll realize that all along you had what you wanted. You already were it. A moment will come when you realize there’s not, after all, a problem. You will notice that the impulse to resist has left you. Things just are as they are. Inside it is weirdly peaceful, even though outwardly things are pretty much as they have been all along. It’s just that they no longer seem to be so much about you—even those things that directly affect your life.” – Jan Frazier

True freedom and the end of suffering arise not from changing external circumstances, but from rediscovering the innate, ever-present peace and wholeness within us that has never been lost. “The journey of motherhood doesn’t end with birth—it transforms. The days and weeks after delivery, known as the 'fourth trimester,' are a sacred window of physical healing, emotional recalibration, and identity reshaping. Yet for many mothers, this period feels less like a supported cocoon and more like a lonely island.

In many traditional cultures, postpartum is a time when the mother is deeply nurtured by her community—fed, massaged, and nourished so she can rest and bond with her baby. But in today’s culture, postpartum mothers are often left to navigate sleepless nights, hormonal shifts, and recovery from birth with little support.

It’s time we shift the narrative. Postpartum recovery isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. Here’s how new mothers can advocate for themselves by prioritizing healing, and how families, communities, and professionals can support them in doing so."

The fourth trimester is a vital window of healing and transformation for mothers, yet many navigate it without the support their bodies and nervous systems truly need. This article explores how rest, community care, nourishing practices, and supportive therapies can help mothers recover, reconnect, and thrive in early postpartum—keep reading “Thriving in the Fourth Trimester: A Guide to Postpartum Recovery and Support” by Alyssa McPeak, DC now: https://pathwaystofamilywellness.org/pregnancy-birth/thriving-in-the-fourth-trimester-a-guide-to-postpartum-recovery-and-support.html

“Everything becomes a little more rigid. A little more reactive. Healing, growth, development, learning, and even compassion take a backseat to survival.

This is what we call the sympathetic alarm state—when the body is running a stress response that never fully turns off. It might not look like panic. It might not even feel anxious. But it shows up in all sorts of ways:

• Sensory sensitivities
• Emotional reactivity
• Digestive issues
• Sleep disruptions
• Allergies, skin flare-ups, or immune imbalances
• Developmental delays or ‘plateaus’
• The sense that your child is smart and capable but still struggling to get traction

These signs are often misunderstood as separate conditions— or chalked up to personality. But they’re often the body’s way of saying: ‘I don’t feel safe enough to change right now.’” – Satya Sardonicus, DC, CACCP

Many childhood symptoms we treat as separate problems are actually expressions of a nervous system stuck in protection, held together by deep fascial patterns. When we stop chasing symptoms and instead create somatic safety—addressing fascia, structure, and nervous system regulation together—the body can finally soften, integrate, and heal as a whole.

“This suggests that our health leaders should be promoting vitamin A as a first line of defense to protect children in this country, since measles deaths in the United States have always been clustered in impoverished, malnourished populations.

Measles outbreaks predictably spawn newspaper editorials portraying parents who choose to not vaccinate their children as unwitting dupes of anti-vaccine zealots, with the inevitable call to end parents’ right to waive vaccination. The fact that vaccine- induced health disorders have been widely reported in the medical literature suggests that the writers of the editorials, not the parents, are the ones who have not done their homework.

British vaccine expert witness Jayne Donegan, MD, is a parent who has spent years researching vaccines. She concludes, ‘I vaccinated both my children with the MMR jab, but this was before I started my research into the problems associated with it. Knowing what I know now, I would not vaccinate my children and run the risk of them getting diabetes, asthma, eczema, becoming more susceptible to meningitis, and ending up chronically disabled.’” — Darrel Crain, D.C.

“When I was in high school, a new chiropractic office opened in my neighborhood. My mom and I were eager to add chiropractic care to our health regimen. I quickly developed an interest in what ‘Doc’ was doing and was fortunate to not only become a patient, but a chiropractic assistant as well! This was such an eye-opening and inspiring experience for me. I knew the body was incredible and quickly learned of its amazing ability to heal itself! I credit my experiences as a chiropractic assistant with piquing my interest in Holistic Health, and well, the rest is history!

Evidence-supported benefits of chiropractic care include relief from pain, decreased dependency on pain medications, improved mobility and flexibility, reduced inflammation, enhanced sleep, stress reduction, and immune support (keep in mind this list is by no means exhaustive). Since I am a Doctor of Natural Medicine and see clients in need of immune support every day, I would like to explain how chiropractic care coupled with balanced health foundations can offer you optimal wellness.” — Heather Lynn, BCDNM

As unique as each one of these holidays and festivals may be, one thing they have in common is the recognition of the human instinct to kindle light in darkness. Crafting candles and homemade lanterns is a tangible way to engage in this seasonal calling and align deeply with nature.” — Erin Blank
