If you’ve looked outside today, you may have noticed everything is yellow. While it is certainly startling, it is a result of smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Please keep our neighbors to the north in your thoughts as they continue to battle these devastating fires. Stay safe, limit outdoor exposure if air quality is poor, and take care of each other. 🍁

Luau, Limbo and a surprise party!

I know this post is going to feel a little heavier than what we normally share, but it’s important. It’s important to recognize that healthcare workers everywhere — not just here — carry emotions that often go unnoticed by the outside world.

A staff member said something recently that stuck with me:
“Grannies should live forever.”

It sounded so innocent and simple, but honestly, I think it captures what so many healthcare workers feel and carry quietly every day.

We look at our grannies (and grandpas), and even when they are frail, we almost forget how strong they really are. These are people who survived wars, heartbreak, poverty, loss, raising families, and building entire lives before many of us were even born. They are tougher than most of us will ever be.

And somewhere along the way, we love them so deeply that we start convincing ourselves that if we care enough, protect enough, check enough, comfort enough… maybe we can hold back the inevitable a little longer.

But this work is heavy.

I watch our staff every day — especially our CNAs and nurses — carry responsibilities that most people will never fully understand. These are living, breathing human beings. Someone’s grandmother. Someone’s grandfather. Someone’s whole world.

Our staff learn their routines, hear their stories, hold their hands, calm their fears, celebrate their birthdays, laugh with them, cry for them, and grieve them when they’re gone. In many ways, they become our family, and we become part of theirs.

So to every CNA, nurse, aide, therapist, activities, housekeeper, dietary worker, maintenance worker, social worker, and caregiver out there — thank you. Thank you for showing up even when it hurts. Thank you for loving people at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

In Loving Memory of Marion Brown ❤️

Today we remember and honor a remarkable woman born in 1930 — a generation defined by resilience, sacrifice, and quiet strength.

She entered the world at the beginning of the Great Depression, long before televisions filled living rooms or computers fit in our pockets. She lived through World War II, witnessed the moon landing, saw the rise of civil rights movements, and watched the world transform in ways few generations ever could. From handwritten letters to smartphones, from radio programs to the internet, she experienced nearly a century of change.

But beyond the history she witnessed was the life she built — the people she loved, the stories she carried, the wisdom she shared, and the countless moments that made her uniquely herself.

Residents and staff alike will remember her presence, her experiences, and the life lessons that could only come from someone who had truly seen the world evolve over decades. Her passing is a reminder that every elder carries a living piece of history with them.

We are grateful to have known her and to have been part of her journey. Our thoughts are with all who loved her.

May she rest peacefully. 🕊️
