Harborview Rehabilitation was happy to allow the Morehead City Fire Department run drills in our building for training. The building is currently empty while we undergo renovates due to Hurricane Florence. The building provided the perfect training location for the firefighters to hone their skills working with high-rise structures.

Special thanks to Harborview Rehabilitation and Maxwell builders for allowing us to use the facility for training over the past few weeks. Firefighters were able to sharpen their skills on high-rise structures.

We enjoyed participating in the 2018 Morehead City Christmas Parade to announce Harborview's intention to reopen in late 2019. We are excited about the renovation plans and will be coming back better than ever. We would like to wish everyone a safe and memorable Christmas season!

To all Harborview employees, if you lost your home or belongings as a result of Hurricane Florence, we are collecting items that can help. Please email a list of items (household items, clothes, children’s clothes, etc) that would benefit your family to [email protected]. Please include sizes and gender information as well as contact information so that we can coordinate getting the items to you.

Just an update to let everyone know the remediation of Harborview’s building is complete and we are on to the next phase which involves getting quotes to begin the restoration process.

It is our hope to start transferring some Harborview residents to Snug Harbor in the near future to await Harborview’s reopening. Harborview’s Social Worker will be reaching out to resident family members as the transfer plans are finalized.

Family members of Harborview patients received phone calls last week to discuss options that were available for their loved ones during the temporary displacement due to Hurricane Florence. Some Harborview patients are planning to be transferred to Snug Harbor in Sealevel, NC temporarily as the repairs are completed at Harborview. It is still our plan to transfer these patients to Snug Harbor as soon as that facility is ready to receive patients. We will be in contact with patient families as we know more information regarding a timeline for when this transfer will take place.

Along with most of Downtown Morehead City, Harborview sustained substantial damage from Hurricane Florence. Remediation is underway and has been for several days now. We have meetings with insurance adjusters and contractors scheduled for this week. Once these meetings take place, we will be able to determine a timeline for restoration. Harborview administration is devoted to completing all necessary repairs so that our patients can return as quickly as possible. Harborview staff will be in contact with patient families and we will post future updates on Facebook as we know more information.

Thank you to the members of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, NC for making and delivering care packages for Harborview and Snug Harbor patients who were evacuated due to Hurricane Florence. The care packages included socks, pictures & cards made by the children of the church and plenty of snacks. The patients I have spoken with greatly appreciate the packages along with the visits by the delivery crew!

Extensive planning by administration and a strong effort by the evacuation team made up of Harborview staff and additional employees from six of our sister facilities made it possible to successfully evacuate all Harborview patients prior to the arrival of Hurricane Florence.
