October is Blindness Awareness Month

A time to recognize the importance of accessibility, independence, education, advocacy, and inclusion for people who are blind or visually impaired.

Throughout the month, we also recognize important observances that help bring greater attention to vision health, Braille literacy, white cane safety, and equal access within our communities.

By increasing awareness and supporting accessible environments, we can help create communities where everyone has the opportunity to live, work, and participate more independently.

A Year of Shared Vision. Building What Comes Next.

One year ago, Atlantic Vision Partners, SouthEast Eye Specialists, and VisionAmerica came together as one organization under AVP·SEES.

Since then, our teams have continued to grow, strengthen, and evolve together with one shared focus: delivering exceptional eye care and helping patients see and live better.

Across our practices and surgery centers, every appointment, diagnostic test, surgery, phone call, and behind-the-scenes effort plays a role in the experience we provide.

This first year has also been about building a stronger foundation for the future — welcoming new providers, expanding access to specialty eye care, investing in our people and practices, and finding better ways to support our patients and teams.

We are proud of how far we have come and excited about what comes next.

To our patients, providers, employees, referring doctors, and community partners: thank you for being part of the journey.

One year together. One shared vision. A stronger future ahead.

Regular eye exams are an important part of maintaining healthy vision throughout every stage of life. They can help detect changes in your eyesight, identify potential eye health concerns early and make sure your current prescription is still meeting your needs.

Don’t wait until something looks blurry to think about your eye health. Make routine eye care part of your overall wellness plan and give yourself the opportunity to keep seeing life as clearly as possible.

Take care of your eyes today so you can enjoy the view tomorrow. 💙

👁️ Your eyes can tell you when something isn’t quite right.

Changes in vision are easy to dismiss—especially when they happen gradually—but certain symptoms may be a sign that it’s time to have your eyes checked.

Common signs worth paying attention to include:

✓ Blurry vision that makes reading, driving or daily tasks more difficult

✓ Frequent headaches, especially after reading or screen use

✓ Dry, irritated or uncomfortable eyes

✓ Difficulty seeing at night, including increased glare or halos

✓ Persistent eye strain or fatigue

These symptoms can have many causes, from a change in your prescription to dry eye or other eye health concerns. The important thing is not to ignore changes that persist, worsen or interfere with your daily life.

Routine eye exams can help identify problems early and ensure you’re getting the care your eyes need.

Early care. Better vision. Brighter life. 💙

💻 Tip of the Month: Give Your Eyes a Break

Between computers, phones, tablets and other digital devices, many of us spend hours each day focusing on screens. That prolonged near work can contribute to tired, dry or uncomfortable eyes.

One simple habit that may help reduce digital eye strain is the 20-20-20 rule:

✓ Every 20 minutes, pause what you’re doing

✓ Look at something about 20 feet away

✓ Keep your eyes focused there for at least 20 seconds

These short breaks allow your eyes to relax from continuous close-up focusing and can also be a helpful reminder to blink more often—something we tend to do less when concentrating on a screen.

You can also support more comfortable screen time by keeping your monitor at a comfortable distance, reducing glare, adjusting screen brightness to match your surroundings and making sure your vision prescription is up to date.

Small breaks can make a big difference for your eyes. 👁️💙

Protecting your eyes is important in every season—not just during the bright summer months. ☀️🍂❄️

Even on cooler or cloudy days, your eyes can still be exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Over time, repeated UV exposure may contribute to eye conditions such as cataracts and other changes to the surface and internal structures of the eye. Building a few simple habits into your daily routine can help protect your vision now and in the years ahead.

A few easy ways to care for your eyes outdoors include:

✓ Wear sunglasses with UV protection whenever you’re outside, even when the sun doesn’t feel especially strong.

✓ Add a hat or visor for an extra layer of protection from direct sunlight.

✓ Avoid rubbing your eyes, especially when they feel dry or irritated, since rubbing can make irritation worse.

✓ Stay hydrated throughout the day to help support normal tear production and overall eye comfort.

Seasonal changes can also bring wind, dry air, allergies and increased time outdoors, all of which may affect how your eyes feel. Paying attention to changes in your vision, comfort or sensitivity—and keeping up with recommended eye exams—can help identify concerns early.
Your eyes work for you every day. A little protection can make a meaningful difference in maintaining healthy vision for the long term. 👁️💙
