Part 3 of our Be Tech Wise series - Preschool edition!
Did you know ⁉️
Studies have found that higher screen use in preschoolers may limit growth and development in areas of the brain responsible for attention, memory, and social skills.
The preschool years are an exciting time when children begin making friends, expressing their ideas, asking questions, and developing new skills. Real-world experiences help build the foundation for communication and learning.
✨ What helps preschoolers learn and grow?
• Emotional reassurance and support
• Pretend play and imaginative activities
• Playing with other children and practicing social skills
• Daily routines and responsibilities
• Talking, singing, and reading together
✨ Why less screen time helps preschoolers thrive:
• Preschoolers learn best through hands-on experiences and real-life interactions
• Too much screen time can replace opportunities for talking, playing, and exploring
• Limited screen time helps children develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and emotional resilience
• Face-to-face interactions support language development and social growth
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
• Ages 2–5 years: Limit screen time to no more than 1 hour per day of high-quality programming
• When possible, watch with your child and talk about what you’re seeing together
✨ Simple ways to get started:
📚 Read together every day
🏠 Involve your preschooler in household tasks like cooking, cleaning, and caring for pets
📱 Set clear and consistent screen-time boundaries
👀 Model healthy screen habits and make time for conversations throughout the day
