Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, yet it is highly preventable through screening starting at age 45 for those with average risk. When caught in the early stages the 5 year survival rate is approximately 91%. There are often no symptoms in early stages which makes screening so important! While risk increases with age (average diagnosis at age 66) the number of cases in people under 50 has rapidly risen in the last few years. We know colonoscopies are never fun but the benefits of early detection and prevention are worth it!
