International Overdose Awareness Day πŸ’œ

As first responders, we see overdose differently.

We see the person behind the statistics. We see someone’s child, parent, sibling, friend, coworker, or neighbor. We meet people on some of the hardest days of their lives, and we see firsthand how substance use and overdose affect not only one person, but entire families and communities.

We respond. We treat. We administer naloxone. We support families standing nearby hoping for another chance with someone they love. Sometimes, despite everything that is done, we witness the heartbreak an overdose leaves behind.

Those experiences stay with us.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a reminder that every life has value. It is a day to remember those we have lost, support those who are still fighting, recognize those in recovery, and stand beside the families who carry the impact every day.

For first responders, our job isn’t to judge how someone arrived at their worst moment. Our job is to show up, provide care, preserve dignity, and give them the opportunity to see another day.

Today, we remember the lives behind the calls and the families behind the faces.

πŸ’œ End the stigma. Remember without judgment. Act with compassion. Every life is worth saving.
