🇺🇸 Salute to Service 🇺🇸

At Choice Care At Home, we are honored to have the opportunity to share the stories of the Veterans we are privileged to serve.

Today, we would like to recognize Fred Farley-

Fred Farley proudly served his country in Vietnam and was stationed at Fort Eschborn, Germany, as well as Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Jackson, and Fort Knox during his time in the Army. He was discharged from the Army in December 1973.

After his military service, Fred moved to Beckley, WV, where he worked as a coal miner before retiring from Cook Family Foods in Grayson, KY, in 2005.

When asked to share a thought or memory, Fred shared something that continues to guide him today: he tries to be a better Christian every day.

We are honored to share Fred’s story and are grateful for his service and sacrifice.

What an incredible day! ❤

Choice Care At Home was honored to attend a special event at American Legion Post 111 and have the opportunity to hear from and meet Jessica Lynch former POW, a true American hero.

Jessica is a former U.S. Army soldier who was captured and held as a POW for nine days during the Iraq War before being rescued in 2003. Hearing her speak and having the opportunity to meet her was such a meaningful experience.

We're grateful for opportunities like this that allow us to come together, honor those who have served, and remember the sacrifices made by our veterans.

Thank you to American Legion Post 111 for hosting such a special event!

Our Heart of Choice Care comes from our office in Moundsville, WV! We couldn’t help to shine the spotlight on our beloved, Pamela Pumpa!

As pictured below, Mrs. Pumpa was the National Easter Seals child representative! She was featured on the back cover of the November 1974 issue of the Employees Bulletin, toured the United States as an Easter Seals rep, and attended many telethons for this organization. Mrs. Pumpa, as seen below, is being held by President Gerald Ford, National Chairman, Peter Faulk, and her father, Herbert Baker.

Mrs. Pumpa graduated from Brooke High School in 1989 with honors. After high school, she went on to West Liberty State College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. From there she went to West Virginia University where she earned her Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Instead of letting her disability define her, she broke the walls for others to see that a physical debility gave her greater mental ability! She served on student council for West Liberty State College, fighting for ADA guidelines around all campus facilities.

On June 14, 2025 during the flash flood in Triadelphia West Virginia, Mrs. Pumpa’s home was swept away by the floods. Pamela was swept away by a wall of water while secured in her wheelchair. A courageous neighbor and friend dove into the water to save her. He was able to lift her up in the chair while others lifted her up and out of harm’s way.

Today, Pam, her husband, and their 2 beloved dogs, Thumper & Shadow, now live in Brooke County close to family. Her light shines brighter than before and her courage, tenacity, and example makes us grateful to be a part of her life and inspires us to become better people, no matter what obstacles come in our way.

Understanding Depression in Older Adults with Care and Compassion

Depression in older adults is often overlooked, but it is a real and treatable health condition—not a normal part of aging. It can show up in subtle ways like withdrawal, changes in sleep or appetite, low energy, or loss of interest in once-enjoyed activities.

With awareness, support, and timely care, many older adults can find relief and reconnect with meaning and joy in their daily lives. Gentle conversations, social connection, healthy routines, and professional support can all play an important role in healing. 🌿

Every small step toward understanding helps reduce stigma and reminds us that emotional well-being deserves the same care as physical health.

💉💙 Staying Protected and Healthy at Every Age

National Immunization Awareness Month is a great reminder that vaccines play an important role in protecting our health and the health of those around us. From childhood to older adulthood, staying up to date on recommended immunizations can help prevent serious illnesses and support stronger, healthier communities. 🌿

For older adults especially, vaccines can provide an extra layer of protection against seasonal illnesses and other preventable diseases, helping preserve independence and overall well-being. Small preventive steps today can make a meaningful difference tomorrow.

Good health is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and our loved ones. When was the last time you checked whether your vaccinations were up to date? 💛
