Being emotionally regulated doesn’t mean that you never get angry, sad, frustrated, anxious, or overwhelmed. It means learning how to recognize those emotions, understand what they’re telling you, and choose a healthy way to respond to them.
Sometimes we confuse “I’m managing my emotions” with “I’m not allowed to show or feel this emotion.” But pushing feelings down doesn’t make them disappear—it can leave us feeling more overwhelmed later.
This is an important skill for children to learn, but it’s just as important for adults. We can teach children that it’s okay to be angry while still teaching them that it’s not okay to hurt someone. We can teach adults that they can acknowledge frustration without allowing it to control their actions.
The goal isn’t to feel less. The goal is to learn what to do with what you feel.

Rest is not something you have to earn.
We often tell ourselves, “I’ll rest when everything is done,” but the truth is… everything is rarely ever completely done. Rest is a basic part of taking care of our mental and emotional health, not a reward for being productive enough. Children need downtime just as much as adults do, and learning to slow down, recharge, and listen to what our bodies and minds need is an important skill at every age.
A few reminders for this week:
🌿 Give yourself permission to take a break before you feel completely exhausted.
🌿 Encourage children to have quiet, unstructured time without feeling like they need to be “doing” something.
🌿 Try replacing “I should be productive” with “What do I need right now?”
🌿 Remember that resting doesn't mean you're lazy, falling behind, or giving up.
🌿 You don't have to finish everything on your list to deserve a moment to breathe.
Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is pause. 💚

Going back to school can bring a mix of excitement, nerves, and big feelings for kids (and parents!). A little preparation can help make the transition smoother. Start establishing routines before the first day, including consistent bedtimes, wake-up times, and morning routines. Prepare as much as possible the night before by choosing outfits, packing backpacks, and getting lunches ready. Most importantly, make time to check in with your child about how they’re feeling. Remind them that it’s okay to feel nervous, frustrated, or overwhelmed, and help them practice healthy ways to cope, such as deep breathing, movement, journaling, drawing, or simply talking to someone they trust. A calm, predictable routine and an open line of communication can help your child feel supported, confident, and ready to take on the new school year! 💕📚

Mental health isn't built on one single habit—it's supported by the small choices we make every day.
✨ Managing stress✨ Finding meaning and purpose✨ Staying active✨ Nourishing our brains with healthy foods✨ Building strong social connections✨ Prioritizing quality sleep
When one area feels off, it can impact the others. The good news? You don't have to perfect all six at once. Even small steps can make a meaningful difference in how you feel.
This week, choose one area to focus on and give yourself permission to grow at your own pace. Progress is made through consistency, not perfection.
💙 Which of these areas do you feel has the biggest impact on your mental well-being?
