One of the biggest misconceptions in fat loss is that the last few pounds should come off just as easily as the first few.
They don’t.
Going from overweight to lean takes consistency. Going from lean to very lean takes PRECISION AND CONSISTENCY.
When you’re carrying more body fat, your body has a little more room for error. An untracked meal, a handful of snacks, or missing a workout here and there usually won’t derail your progress.
Once you’re already lean, that margin for error gets much smaller.
The difference between 12% body fat and 8%, or between looking fit and looking stage lean, often comes down to the little things:
Every meal matters.
Every serving size matters.
Every workout matters.
Every step, every hour of sleep, every weekend decision starts to count.
The leaner you get, the more your body wants to hold on to the fat that’s left. Hunger increases. Energy drops. Recovery slows. That’s normal. Your body isn’t trying to make your life miserable—it’s trying to keep you alive.
This is why progress often feels slower at the end of a diet. You aren’t failing. You’re simply working in a place where the margin for error is much smaller.
That doesn’t mean you need to be perfect.
It means you need to be intentional.
If your goal is to be healthy, you don’t need bodybuilding-level precision. But if your goal is visible abs, stepping on stage, or reaching an exceptionally lean physique, the standards change. The habits that got you lean may not be enough to get you very lean.
Respect the process.
Stay patient.
Keep doing the small things well, because at this stage, the small things are the big things.
Also acknowledge that we have to sacrifice A LOT at that stage.
You have to reflect on where you are HAPPIEST in life.
If you aren’t a competitor, and are simply trying to get lean for your own aesthetic desires, take a moment to visualize what that will look like.
Not everyone is willing to give those things up. So make sure you weigh out the pros and cons. Perhaps there is a middle ground that you are happiest at, where you can be a HEALTHY lean, and still enjoy the pleasures in life you aren’t willing to give up. Either option is OK! 😊
