Virginia Davis

Moriarty, New Mexico – Virginia Davis, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated community servant, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 31, 2026.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts, to Eben and Ellen Card, Virginia embodied strength, adventure, and compassion from an early age. In October 1961, she enlisted in the U.S. Army, where she met the love of her life, James Davis, at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Just 56 days later, they married and began a remarkable journey together, including service in Frankfurt, Germany.

While James pursued his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Virginia worked at Rock Island Arsenal. They eventually made their way to New Mexico, where Virginia became a cornerstone of the community. She served with distinction as the Edgewood Postmaster for 31 years, earning the respect and admiration of those she served. Deeply committed to helping others, she volunteered as an ambulance driver for the Edgewood and Moriarty Fire District and was an active member of the Moriarty Lions Club, where she gave generously of her time and energy to support local charitable efforts.

Virginia was a selfless soul who consistently put others before herself. Her warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her four sons—James, Michael, Craig, and Troy—seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dennis Chavez

Dennis Chavez, was born in La Perra, NM, to Placido and Margarita Chavez. They moved to Tajique when he was a young boy. He went to school in Tajique and immediately went to work. In his younger years, he worked for Tomas Farms, then worked for the Torrance County Road Department. Soon after, he was injured and worked for himself. Dennis was an avid wood hauler. He found so much peace in his beloved Monte and worked so hard to provide a beautiful life for his family. He made many friends who would come see him when they needed a tire changed or just a chat with a good friend.

He was a devout Catholic and former Mayordomo of San Antonio Catholic Church in Tajique.

He married the love of his life, Norma Chavez, and they built a beautiful life together. He had three daughters and two sons. He lived his whole life in his beloved Tajique. He took his last breath on earth and his first breath in heaven surrounded by his loving wife, Norma, and his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, his brother, and his grandson, Santos. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Chavez. Three daughters: Venessa Chavez (Andrew Gutierrez), Sophia Chavez, Mariaelena Lovato (David Lovato), Dennis Chavez Jr. (Jeanette Luna), and Paul Chavez. Thirteen adoring grandchildren: Santos Tenorio, Dominique Gutierrez, Monique Tenorio, Santiago Tenorio, Makayla Tenorio, Nekko Gutierrez, Dalilah Gutierrez, Arianna Lovato, Lenaya Lovato, Evangeline Chavez, Miguelangel Chavez, Angelita Chavez, and D'Angelo Chavez. And five great-grandchildren: Sage Chavez, Giovanni Moran, Levy Tenorio, Iliana Tenorio, and Auzria Tenorio. Brother Lawrence Chavez (Greg Chavez) Sister Nela Maldonado (Carlos Maldonado)

Funeral services will be held at the San Antonio Catholic Church in Tajique, NM. Rosary June 8th at 7:00 PM Funeral Mass June 9th at 10:00AM; Father Jose Lucero Officiating.

Pallbearers; Lawrence Chavez, Dennis Chavez Jr. Andrew Gutierrez, David Lovato, Santiago Tenorio, Nekko Gutierrez, and David Maldonado; Honorary Pallbearers Tomas Medina and Lawrence Chavez.

Those who share his love of the Monte please bring your chainsaw to the burial to help us honor our father as we cut one last piece of leña in his memory.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Harris and Hanlon Mortuary. We would like to thank Grant and his team for providing us with the most compassionate care during this very difficult time.

Kenyon Elmo Nowotny

Kenyon Elmo Nowotny

Ken passed away at home on May 23, 2026 after recently celebrating both his 90th birthday and his 53rd wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife Ramona, his four children and their spouses, Kenyon (Lindsay), Kevin (Kirstina), Kelby (Julie), Kimberly (Ivan), and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was born on April 13, 1936 in Wichita, Kansas to Mary and Elmo Nowotny. His sister, Moonyeen, became sick and died suddenly shortly after turning 13. It was a tremendous blow to the entire family.

Later, the family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. After high school he attended Central Technical Institute, then majored in engineering at the University of Omaha.

After graduation, he moved to Albuquerque to work at Sandia National Labs.

In 1973, he married Ramona Schofield.

Ken spent several years as a member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, followed by several years involved with the Cub and Boy Scouts, before taking an active interest in genealogy.

He will be buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in Moriarty, New Mexico.

Loyce Faye Bocock, 74 years of age, of Edgewood, New Mexico, peacefully crossed the Heavenly bridge on May 19, 2026 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after being taken to the hospital on March 18th due to having an unexpected stroke. Loyce was born in Clovis, New Mexico on August 20, 1951 to Clarence and Sarah Nell Brown. May 22, 1971 Loyce was married to the love of her life and life partner, Johnny Lynn Bocock. Loyce was a member of the East Mountain Cowboy Church. She was the owner, along with Johnny, of Edgewood Video and Radio Shack for 29 years. After they closed in 2007, she worked at Walmart Vision for 3 years. After retirement, Loyce found enjoyment in being with family and gardening.

Loyce Faye Bocock is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws: Jeremy and Kristi Bocock of Edgewood, New Mexico; and David and Julie Bocock of Glendora, California. As well as her 3 siblings: Dale Brown, Lena Braithwaite, and her twin, Boyce (Bo) Brown. Loyce was blessed with four grandchildren: Hayden Bocock, Tesslynn Bocock, Hudson Bocock, and Elias Bocock. As well as a great grandchild, Sadie Bocock.

Loyce Faye Bocock was a very compassionate and nurturing woman with a pure heart and soul. There will be a public viewing on June 5th, 2026 from 4-6PM at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico. Her Funeral will be held at the Edgewood Middle School, 17 Venus Rd W, Edgewood, New Mexico, on June 6th. Services will start at 11 AM and will be followed with a burial and graveside service at the Mountainview Cemetery in Moriarty, New Mexico.

To honor some of those who were close in the heart of Loyce, her Pallbearers will be: Hayden Bocock, Tesslynn Bocock, Hudson Bocock, Elias Bocock, BJ Peirce, Ethan Peirce, and Ismael "Junior" Montano.

Maria L. Romero

Maria L. Romero, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s arms on May 19 th , 2026. She just celebrated her 78th birthday. She was born on May 10 th , 1948 in Vaughn, NM, to Persone A. Baca and Domitilia R. Parraz. Maria graduated from Moriarty High School in 1966. She started her life and began raising her only child. Her daughter was her number one fan and she enjoyed watching football and cheering on her favorite team with her. She was a member of the Raider Nation. She was a great baker and knew how to spoil her daughter with all of her treats. She always had her daughter’s back and was always there when she needed her the most. She was still there watching her back till the very end. Maria was the best Mom anyone could ever ask for and she will be greatly missed. Maria is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Rita Anaya, Theresa Baca, and Linda Horton; one brother, Gilbert Parraz, and two grandbabies, Logan & Lucas Armijo. She is survived by her daughter April Romero-Armijo and her husband Lelen; brother David Baca, and sister Antonia Baca. Maria will be remembered as a very loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother and friend by all that knew and loved her. A Rosary will be recited Thursday May 28 th , 2026 at 7:00 pm at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. The Mass will be Friday May 29 th , 2026 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Moriarty, NM. Burial will immediately follow at the Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Moriarty, NM. Gathering will follow in the parish hall. Pallbearers are Noah Parraz, Gilbert Parraz, Ramon Gutierrez, Fernando Gutierrez, JR Gutierrez, and Juan Gutierrez. LeRoy Carl Cravens

LeRoy Carl Cravens, 94, Born at Pedernal, New Mexico on October 21, 1931 to Carl and Lorine Cannon Cravens. LeRoy was the oldest of brothers Lamar and Phillip. He attended primary school in Pedernal, middle and high school at Encino, both in Torrance County. In high school LeRoy played basketball and worked on the family homestead where they raised dry land beans. While in high school he met his future wife Mercedes Perez, who was from a pioneering family that owned the Victor Perez Ranch. LeRoy graduated in 1949. In 1950 the Korean War started and Leroy joined the Navy, serving four years during which time he and Mercedes were married. After the Navy, the family moved to Las Cruses where Leroy earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Arts degree from what is now New Mexico State University. Following this, the family moved to Albuquerque where LeRoy taught school and earned a Master of Education in Science degree from the University of New Mexico. LeRoy taught for 26 years and retired in 1984 to pursue ranching full-time on ranches both he and Mercedes inherited. LeRoy lived and worked on the ranch for 42 years until his passing on May 16th at age 94. Ranching was his life-long dream.

LeRoy is survived by Mercedes, his wife of 75 years who is still actively working the ranch. Their four children, Keith, Mark and his wife Jayne, Clay, and Cindy; five grandchildren, Stephen and his wife McCall, Karen, Kimberly and her husband Nick, Kyle, Cody and his wife Lauren; and nine great grandchildren, Austin, Benjamin, Hannah, Sydney, Hugh, Charlotte, Robert, Nico, and Whitley, ranging in age from 15 years to 15 months.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026, at Ourlady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Encino, NM; Rosary at 10:00 am, Mass at 11:00 followed by the burial at the Our Lady of Guadalupe catholic cemetery in Encino, NM. Pallbearers will be Cody Cravens, Dan Cravens, Karen Cravens, Kent Cravens, Kim Cravens Ritchie, Kyle Cravens, Paul Cravens, and Stephen Cravens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anna Hindi, Elias Sanchez, Ismael Rodriguez, Jane Cotner, Michael Perez, Steve Haley, and Tito Chavez.

Alberto Candelaria

Alberto Candelaria, 86, passed away May 13, 2026 at home in Mountainair, NM. Alberto was born in Manzano, NM April 11, 1940 to Jose Teodoro and Luz Amalia (Turrietta) Candelaria. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Teodoro Candelaria; sister-in-law, Oralia Candelaria; sister Rosarito Candelaria; and two sons Jerry & Jose Waquie.

Alberto was a member of the St Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair, NM, and was a very kind & generous man. He helped anyone in need in however way he could. Alberto was also an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan.

He is survived by life long partner Carmelita Waquie; son Laurence and his wife Sara Candelaria; daughter Katherine Waquie; son Tim and his wife Miranda Waquie. 6 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers Guillermo and Juanita Candelaria, Alfredo and Oralia (deceased) Candelaria, and Mario and Frances Candelaria; one sister Magdalena Lajeunesse. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

Our many thanks to those who helped care for him in the end but most especially his grandson Ivan Nofchissey.

Funeral services are as follows; Rosary will be recited Saturday May 30, 2026 @ 10:om Followed by the Mass both at Nuestra Senora De Los Dolores Catholic Church in Manzano, NM. Burial will be in Nuestra Senora De Los Dolores Catholic Church yard cemetery.
