I have worked previously in the public school system to support individuals who have special needs as well as working in special recreation. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my three kids, teaching drama classes, and singing in a band. I am looking forward to getting to know all of the individuals and staff here at IVI and working together as a team. "

“Microwaves use about 50% less energy than conventional ovens. They heat up food faster and don't warm up your whole kitchen. Which means your air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard and heat up your house in the summer months. Microwaves are perfect for reheating leftovers, making popcorn, cooking vegetables, or heating up soup. Of course, some foods need to be baked in an oven, but when you have a choice, the microwave is a great energy-saving option.”

Starting July 1, 2025, IVI was awarded a grant to participate in the first phase of the state’s historic move toward increased employment options and community integration for the people we support! This was a competitive grant process, and IVI was chosen as one of 12 agencies statewide to receive the award.

The Dignity in Pay grant will help us continue moving away from the antiquated practice of paying people at IVI by the piece rather than at minimum wage. The State of Illinois will phase out piece-rate work (14c) on December 30, 2029. Currently, 95% of the vocational opportunities offered at IVI for the people we support are paid minimum wage. All new vocational opportunities on are automatically paid at minimum wage.

We are pleased to receive this grant for a second and final year. Transition from what is known to what is new and better takes time. We continue to strengthen our services and expand capacity across our vocational, community access, employment, and self-determination options for the adults with intellectual disabilities we serve, thanks to this grant.
