A Legacy of Generosity and Caring

Morrison Community Hospital is deeply grateful for the generosity and lasting legacy of longtime family physician Dr. Richard Vandermyde.

We were proud to dedicate our new Family Care Clinic in Dr. Vandermyde’s honor—a fitting tribute to a physician who cared for generations of families in our community. Dr. Vandermyde not only delivered many of the patients who now receive care at the Family Care Clinic, but he also generously donated a substantial portion of his estate to help make this clinic a reality.

We were honored to welcome members of Dr. Vandermyde’s family for the dedication. Pictured are Michael (husband of Rachel), Mark and Debbie's daughter, Rachel; Rachel's mother and Mark's wife, Debbie; oldest son Mark, youngest son Scott and second oldest Bill. Son Steve, who was attending his son’s wedding, was unable to attend.

Morrison Community Hospital CEO Pam Pfister accepted the generous donation on behalf of the hospital and joined Mark, Bill and Scott in honoring Dr. Vandermyde’s remarkable legacy.

We are incredibly grateful to the entire Vandermyde family for their generosity and for helping ensure that Dr. Vandermyde’s commitment to caring for our community will continue for generations to come.

On behalf of the staff of Morrison Community Hospital and the many patients whose lives Dr. Vandermyde touched—thank you.

His legacy lives on in the care provided every day at the Morrison Community Hospital Family Care Clinic.

Truly a miracle outcome. We are so proud of our EMS team and all those people who jumped into action to save this little boys life! Amazing!

As a follow up to the post we shared on August 14th, we have the heartwarming pleasure of sharing Cal's first day of preschool photo! We wanted to take a moment to thank those first responders that were also integral in getting this amazing little boy to the definitive care he needed right away.

Shout out to Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, Morrison Police Department, Morrison Fire Department and EMS, and ISP for all of the great work!!

Morrison Community Hospital welcomed an estimated 300 community members on Sunday, July 19, to celebrate the completion of its newly expanded Family Care Clinic during a special Open House. Guests toured the state-of-the-art addition, met clinic staff, and learned more about the hospital's continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare in the region.

The Family Care Clinic expansion represents a significant investment in meeting the growing healthcare needs of the community. The project includes 22 new exam rooms, expanded nurse stations, additional physician offices, and a spacious new waiting room designed to improve patient comfort and efficiency. The expansion also features a dedicated procedure room that provides space for services such as sutures, biopsies, and injections.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore the new facility while enjoying refreshments and speaking with providers and staff about the services available through the clinic.

"Our community has always been at the heart of everything we do," said Mick Welding, Marketing Director. "Seeing more than 300 people attend the Open House was a wonderful reminder of the support we receive and the trust our patients place in us. We are excited to continue growing to meet the healthcare needs of our region."

The Family Care Clinic currently serves approximately 5,000 patients each month and is staffed by 82 employees, including six primary care providers and 28 specialty providers. The expansion will allow the clinic to continue providing timely, convenient access to both primary and specialty care as patient demand continues to grow.

The July Open House also offered a glimpse into the hospital's future. Construction is already underway on the next phase of Morrison Community Hospital's campus expansion, which includes two additional operating rooms, two new procedure rooms, an infusion room, a larger conference room, and an expanded rehabilitation services area. This phase is expected to be completed by June 2027.

Located at 303 N. Jackson Street in Morrison, Morrison Community Hospital provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including emergency care, radiology, laboratory services, inpatient medical and surgical care, rural health clinics offering primary and urgent care, specialty physician services, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, diabetes education, skin care, and wound care.

Hospital leaders expressed their appreciation to everyone who attended the Open House and to the staff, volunteers, and community partners who helped make the event a success.

The celebration marked not only the completion of a beautiful new facility, but also Morrison Community Hospital's continued investment in providing exceptional, accessible healthcare for the communities it proudly serves.
