This World Breastfeeding Week, Georgia South Family Medicine is proud to recognize the incredible impact breastfeeding has on the health of mothers, babies, and communities around the world🌎

More than 820,000 children's lives could be saved each year among children under age 5 if all children from birth to 23 months were optimally breastfed.

𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐲, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠:
✔️ Exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months helps protect infants against gastrointestinal infections and other illnesses.
✔️Beginning breastfeeding within the first hour after birth helps protect newborns from infections and lowers the risk of newborn mortality.
✔️ Breastfeeding throughout the first 2 years of life supports healthy growth and development, lowers the risk of chronic disease, and reduces childhood illness and mortality.
✔️ Breast milk provides half or more of a baby's energy needs between 6 and 12 months, and about one-third of their energy needs from 12 to 24 months.

Meet our new Chief Resident, Dr. Macy Rowan!

A Valdosta native, Dr. Rowan earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) before attending PCOM South Georgia right here in Moultrie.

As Chief Resident, Dr. Rowan serves as a bridge between our residents, faculty, and administration. From helping coordinate schedules and coverage to organizing educational conferences, resident socials, and wellness initiatives, she's dedicated to making our residency program an even better place to learn, grow, and thrive.

We're excited to have Dr. Rowan in this leadership role and can't wait to see the positive impact she'll have on our residents and our program. Join us in congratulating her! 🎉

Hands-on learning is in full swing at Georgia South Family Medicine Residency! 💉🩺

This past week, our interns sharpened their ultrasound skills and practiced knee injections, while residents across the program participated in a crash course on perineal repairs. From mastering procedures to building confidence, every hands-on experience helps prepare our residents to deliver exceptional care to the patients they’ll serve.

What a wonderful evening celebrating a decade of excellence in graduate medical education!

We were honored to commemorate 10 years of Georgia South GME while also welcoming the newest members of our residency family. The evening was filled with reflection, gratitude, and excitement for the future as we celebrated the impact our residents, faculty, and staff have made over the past decade.
